HC2 not recognised by router

Question

Posted

I moved into a home that had a HC2 already set up.  I have never been able to access it but I didn't care because everything just worked.

Recently, a light switch broke and I read somewhere that switching off the fuse and back on again can help the switch be re-detected by the system.  This caused other switches to fail so my only option seems to be to access the HC2, but I still can't do it.

My router doesn't recognise it at all (EE Smart Hub).  The router can see the 'unknown' device but lists it as unconnected, so I can't change any settings at all, and the HC2 knows it's plugged into a LAN but doesn't have internet access.

Is there any help out there?  It's probably the most frustrating thing I've ever dealt with in my life and I haven't even been able to get started with it.

. Do you have a Fibaro ID? You should check with the fomer owner and/or landlord if they can provide that information.

There is no details on the cabling and address management of the local network in your home. Also can you please explain what "broke down" means. The problem description is very vague, so it is impossible to troubleshoot.

If HC2 is in the LAN but there is no internet access, I'd suggest you check the router for firewall rules preventing internet access.

    Hi Jay rock,

Thanks for the reply - I didn't get an email telling me I had a response, so apologies for the delay.

I do have a Fibaro ID.  I can see the device in the list using the link you suggested but there is a red cross next to it.  I'm guessing that indicates it isn't working properly.

It has a MAC address and a serial number and tells me integrations are active, whatever that means.

I don't know what you mean by cabling or address management, but the HC2 is connected via ethernet cable to the router.

As for the light switch breaking down, the light was working one day and could be switched on from a number of switches, then the next day it couldn't be turned on at all.  One of the light switches (the one closest to the bulb) no longer had any LEDs lit up, so I assumed the switch had broke which then caused a problem with the bulb it controlled.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Can you try another cable?

Perhaps the cable is defect or did you do a router change?

it is possible that the ip range is not the same range as the router is.

If you try to switch it to DHCP, you you're router should assign a new ip adress to it, Reboot needed I think.

Then you could lookup the IP adress in the router.

But beware you need a admin login to change settings. If you cannot acces the system, after changing to DHCP, maybe you cannot go back to static. Then you stuck with an non working system.

Go to DHCP by pressing the (+) key long.

    Physical change

Press and hold the “+” button on the Home Center casing:

    • If diode on the Home Center is flashing fast, it means that static IP is set (192.168.81.1 by default).
    • If diode on the Home Center is flashing slowly, it means that dynamic IP (DHCP) is set.

I'll try some things when I get the chance, but it is a switched router.  I moved into this home which already had the HC2 set up but we had to change the router when we got our broadband set up.  The HC2 hasn't been accessible since, but I didn't care because all the lights were working.  It's set to DHCP and the IP of the HC2 is 0.0.0.0 (showing as unknown device).

I am worried that resetting the HC2 will stop all the lights from working, so was wondering if there was a way to get into it first, since I'll need to do that anyway.

    Cheers for the replies.

do you remember the old settings (ip range) of the router?

I don't know the IP range but I know that to get into the hold home center you could go to 192.168.0.6

    My new router is 192.168.1.145

I'm guessing that has to do with it.

    Well that's easy then

setup youre ip in youre laptop to 192.168.0.100

connect youre hc2 with youre laptop (cable between hc2 en laptop

login youre hc2, change the ip to the new range (or enable dhcp)

    set laptop back to dhcp

I have changed my laptops IP address to 192.168.0.100 but how do I log into my HC2?  I have connected the ethernet cable between the HC2 and the laptop, but I can't access the HC2.

Okay, I can attempt to log into the HC2 but it doesn't recognise the password, even though I can log in via the website.  Choosing the 'change password' option doesn't do anything and it pops up with a 403 error.

I didn't change anything but it now lets me feel like I've logged in but shows a 403 error and I can't select any of the links.

When I go to home.fibaro.com, I can see the device, but it has an error but won't give me any more detail.

You need the login and password, perhaps it is still login: admin  pasword: admin ?

Please through the webpage (ip nr) and not through fibaro cloud

Like I said, it doesn't recognise the password (I also tried admin, admin) but the "forgot your password" button doesn't work either.

So I can't log in and I can't reset the password.

If I reset the HC2 to factory settings, will all my lights stop working?  And will that allow me back into the HC2 so I can set them up again?

Normally if you reset the hc2 you can use admin/admin again.

If you have a backup from youre working lights, you can load that backup

Thanks for all the responses, it's really helpful.

Is there a way for me to check if I have backups?  I don't know if the previous owner backed anything up.
