"When I'm at home" condition - HC3

Question

Posted

Hello all,

I recently acquire a Fibaro HC3 along with some other devices. I started to "draw" my first block based scenes and I came up with an issue... There are some scenes that I only wat to run when I'm at home. I can see there's a GPS location based condition that only has the option "Enters" or "Leaves"... I assume this only triggers events when I enter or leave my home zone (based on my mobile GPS Location?), but what I really wanted was a condition that validated if I'm at home (or the opposite, also), something similar to what Apple's Homekit has.

Is there a way of doing this sort of validation using block based scenes, is it possible doing it using a LUA script?

Thanks in advance

How does Apple's Homekit works?

I'm not pretty much concerned on "how it works" (it was just an example of an implementation of the feature)... it works based on your GPS location, probably. My main concern is the "when I'm at home" option it has.

If HC3 can know if I enter or leave my Home zone based on my phone location it obviously knows if I'm inside that zone or outside of it, hence my question.

Still not quit certain if I understand your question. Fibaro uses the GPS of your phone to determine if your are home or not, with een geofence circle. You can use the "Enters" or "Leaves" to do several things. One of them is to setup a variable you can use in your scenes, for example.

Well maybe it's just a matter of interpretation and that "Enters"/"Leaves" function does what I want.

From my understanding if I use the "Enters" function this means that whenever I enter my home this will do something.

But what I want to do is a validation if I am at my house, not arriving/entering it... probably this "Enters" function will do what I want (return true if I'm in my home zone and false if I'm not in it)... I'll try it out.

The "Enter" and "Leave" are triggers.

You can make a simple blockscene, that if you "enter" the geofence, it sets up a variable "At Home". And an other blockscene, if you "leave" the geofence, it sets up a variable "Away". With this variable, you have an all day setting, wether you are at home or away.

Thank you for your help, the variable solution seems to be working, I'll test its changing status tomorrow, when I leave home to work.

I just came across with another question... I've set a Work location on my "HC3 General > Locations", shouldn't I be able to see it when I'm editing my Scenes.

I can't seen it, I only see my Home Center location... is this a bug? or not even a feature?

    Thanks once again.

Sounds like it could work, but sorry, I don’t have experience with more than one location.
