“Secondary controller” setting deleted all my devices?!

Question

Posted

So I was trying to add a remotec remote that isn’t a device but a secondary controller.

Without a huge understanding i pressed the secondary button in the z wave settings...

...suddenly all my devices are being removed?!

I managed to reboot before they were all gone but what remained was “not configured”.

what the heck did I do?

I had a backup from a couple months earlier but this sets me back quite a bit of progress.

To make matters worse, all the devices added since my backup don’t seem to want to be included now. I guess they still think they are part of a network? Seems there’s no way to do a reset via s1 Inputs of in wall devices which kind of sucks - lots of switch plates to pull to get at the B buttons.

What a run around! I don’t imagine this can be undone but how did something that appeared so passive cause so much damage?!

You have tried to include HC as secondary controller to a different network - this resets yours.

The only way is to restore backup.

While I don’t doubt you are right (coz that’s what happened) the screen is very poorly worded!

“Controller transfer” describes what happened to me, and “add secondary controller” notes two possibilities - one is to “receive the primary network role” (ie make something else secondary! Very confusing!

    Add "secondary" controller:

Starts controller learning process (LearnMode), which is used to add or remove the Home Center gateway as a "secondary" controller or to receive the "primary" network role.

    Controller transfer:

Starts process of adding a controller and is transferring its role as a main controller.
