How i would do that:

Make a block scene, that has a trigger from the geofencing on your phone.

And a action that sends you a interactive push msg to start the scene that opens your gate.

(or less secure, just start the scene without interaction)

I've only been testing the geofencing option for a month now. I want to be 100% sure it works correctly first. Before I attach scenes to it. Does the notification option work normally? For now, I've only set up that I get a notification when I'm outside the set zone, and when I come back in again another notification. Get that working correctly first maybe ?

Maybe narrow down the radius, and be sure that the longitude and latitude is correct in the location settings.

Just tick the "use as activation" in the action block. And be sure it's set active in the scene's list.

In the app on the phone, give full acces for gps. But i think this setting is done at first use for the geo location in the app.

you can check (for android) not sure how this works for iphone))

I am doing similar tests but not with a gate. can say it works 2 out of 5 times. iphone works well android not so well  Sometimes it is as if the app has to be in the background and be open otherwise it will not work. the radius at gps location is too big for me it takes a block 150 meters is too big radius. 50 meters is enough as a minimum .. I do not really know if fibaro learns? but gps location has probably never really worked. Then they can just as well do one on wifi too.

You could try IFTTT.com for better GPS localisation. You can make two “applets” max for free, like this one:

like ppeterr said, make a notification scene and use the IFTTT applet to activate it.
