HC2 StartScene and character encoding

FamSetsaas

Question

Dear experts,

I've run into a problem with character encoding when calling a StartScene.

My code looks like this:

local message = "Testing 'quotes' and national characters: æøåÆØÅ"
fibaro:startScene(47,{message})

In scene 47 I do the following:

local args = fibaro:args()
fibaro:debug(args[1])

The output is:
Testing 'quotes' and national characters: æøåÃÃÃ

As you can see, all the national characters have been garbled. So it looks like the sending and receiving scene do not agree on the character encoding.

Any ideas?

Hi @FamSetsaas ,

Before calling the scene try to encode message:

Please login or register to see this code.

and then in the scene you will need to decode message with:

Please login or register to see this code.

Hope this helps.

  • Hi @Sankotronic

Thanks for your help. Yes, this solved my issue.

Just a question: What is the QuickApp: and self: (which I had to remove) in the encode part?

    Hi @FamSetsaas ,

Sorry, I haven't check that you have HC2 which uses Virtual Devices (VD) so I posted code for HC3 and Quick App (QA). Difference is that Quick Apps uses an object-oriented programming and more about that you can find here:

Please login or register to see this link.

Removing Quickapp: and self: methods makes code compatible with HC2 VD.
