Update from 5.040GA to 5.090

Hi friends..
I follow the gradual development of fw HC3.
There is something that can be solved with each update, but a lot of new problems will also be produced.
You may not be surprised when I say that HC3 is still running for a year old but stable version 5.040GA.
When I am desperately waiting for the users who dared to upgrade, it completely discourages me from trying the only HC3 that controls my home.

But now I'm looking at the current 5.090 and either it won't be so bad, because there is a "minimum" of critical posts during the week, or people don't like it anymore and they just don't upgrade.

But this brings me to one thought.
Many upgrades require an "intermediate step" in the form of some fw other than the current one. This is usually when the program architecture changes.
I am interested in the correct procedure for upgrading from such old fw.
I know there was a history issue that had to be cleaned manually with the help of the api. Later versions did this themselves.

Do you have anyone recommended?
