Multiple Walli Switches for a single bulb

Question

Posted

Hello all,

I am new to home automation.  I am in the process of converting all switches on my ground floor (eventually the entire house but €€€ you know how it goes) to Walli-based products.

Most importantly right now are the Roller Shutter Switches, which aren't a problem ... but the question I have is can I setup a scene with Smartthings so that one Walli Switch controls the lightbulb (the "Master" switch if you will) while the other Walli Switch (the "Slave" switch) simply sends information to the master switch.

What I would ideally like to do is have the ring on both switches be red when the lightbulb is off and blue when the lightbulb is on.  I want each switch to be able to turn the lightbulb on and off and simultaneously change the color of the other ring.

I have the Aeotec Smartthings Hub and would ideally like for this to work locally.  I am unsure how the circuit is wired but assume each switch will have L/N 220/240 and one switch will control the light while the other switch simply communicates with the hub and thus the other switch as well.  I am electrically handy so doing my own work isn't a problem.  I am located in Germany if thats helpful information.

I assume this is possible, does anyone have any tips for me?

Thanks for everyone's help in advance.

What you want can be done by using Z-Wave associations.

The master switch is connected with the controlled device and the slaves only with L + N

not sure how associations are done and if that is possible with a SmartThings hub, but it should be implemented as it is a basic functionality for every zwave controller

@Gatriel

Or:

i guess both walli controlls the bulb?

If walli 1 or walli 2 report > 2 watt change colour to green

if walli 1 or walli 2 report < 2 watt change colour to red

changing colours are zwave actions (changing parameters) i don't know if the smartthings hub supports that

So I just wanted to update on how to do this super easy without associations -

I simply created a routine, when one switch is on - it automatically turns the other switch on and then another routine for the reverse.

This works with normal bulbs but God help you if you try to add a smart bulb to the mix.
