My Home center 2 is no longer visible in the finder and it is striking that all the LEDs are lit on the front?
Does anyone have any idea what could be going on?

If you still have that "dongle" called "recovery drive" plugged into the side of the HC2 then remove it, it is not needed and can block the boot process. Then power of and power on.

If that is not it, your CMOS battery might be low, you'll find hints if you type CMOS in "search" on this website, but before that I would recommend "put a LCD screen on that HC2" and see what it says.

Will I lose data when I replace the backup battery?

No, replacing the battery won't cause data loss. All data is on a usb stick, mounted inside the HC2
