Fibaro Dimmer 2 module and compatible switches

Question

I tried to find answers to the following questions, but I haven't found a definitive answer.

I read that Dimmer 2 can have multiple uses, but I'm interested in normal light dimming. I want to set the brigthness only from the smartphone, but also use normal switches on the wall to turn the light on/off. I also want the dimming value to be to be programmed according to a schedule, and respected when operating the light switch manually. Sorry, I don't know some of the corect terminology and if the following use cases are possible.

  • Can I use Dimmer 2 module with a common on/off switch (the kind that holds the position)?
  • Can I use Dimmer 2 module with a push switch (the kind that that is pushed once and returns back to the initial position with a spring, like at a door bell)? I suppose a second push would have the opposite effect.
  • Can I use Dimmer 2 module with 3 common on/off switches that work together? Specifically, I can turn the lights on from the switch near the door, and then off from either of the two switches on the opposite wall. I this case I need one or three Dimmer 2 modules for the three phisical switches?
  • Can smart light bulbs (think Philips Hue) be used with Fibaro 2 Dimmer / Switch?

  • Can I use Dimmer 2 module with a common on/off switch (the kind that holds the position)? Yes you can.  But you lose the ability to dim from the switch, and the toggle direction can get out of synch with the light.
  • Can I use Dimmer 2 module with a push switch (the kind that that is pushed once and returns back to the initial position with a spring, like at a door bell)? I suppose a second push would have the opposite effect. Yes, this is the preferred method. If you hold it down it dims.  Double click and it goes to full brightness.

Yes, this scenario works - with either toggle or push buttons.  The switches must be connected together but you only need one Dimmer 2.
  • Can smart light bulbs (think Philips Hue) be used with Fibaro 2 Dimmer / Switch? No, Hue will not work, as power to the bulb is interrupted by the Dimmer 2 (and may damage the bulb).  You make a normal light bulb smart by using a Dimmer 2.  You might be able to get a Hue bulb to talk directly to your controller via Hue Hub .

You should also use a Fibaro Bypass with each Dimmer 2 if you expect your load to be below 5W. And don't forget you need a controller hub eg Home Centre 2/3/lite or other brand.
