[HC2] Restore a backup from another device

Question

Posted

Hello,

I made a backup of my Fibaro Home Center 2 before it died recently;

luckily I have a spare Fibaro Home Center 2 to restore the backup: I made a factory reset and then install all upgrades up to version 4.630 (old HC2 had version 4.620).

When I try to restore the backup from the old HC2 I have this error (see attached image) "Cannot Decrypt Backup":

is it possible to recover a backup from another device?

Please contact support, it is possible.

One limitation, you will need to prove that this is your old configuration backup - this should not be a problem :)

Long-story-short:

The local backups and even downloaded FIB files cannot be restored to a new HC2, because all these backup files are encrypted using a hardware-specific info of the original HC2.

Luckily, support can help with this. You don't even need a FIB file, support is using backups stored in cloud for the recovery:
