limiting DebugMessages on HC2

In my main scene I log a lot of information.

To limit the size of the logfile I completely remove it:

I was exploring a more refined method:

function limitDebugMessages(MaxMessages)

The put function fails to write the modified array. Is the syntax wrong or is it impossible to write the DebugMessages?
