How to update the gateway? It says that it does not work through a remote connection.

I have Yubii Home gateway which runs at 5.120.10 and states that 5.130.64 is available. But it also says that I have to use a local connection.

So I wonder how I get that local connection. I assume that I have to connect via the local Wifi network of the gateway but I don´t know how to reach it again because currently the gateway is connected to my home Wifi.

But even if I could connect to it locally, how can I download the update from the internet without having an internet connection anymore? Is there any tutorial? I don´t find anything. All documentation assumes that I have the local connection already but does not say how to get there.

Your gateway is connected to your home WiFi. So it has an ip address like 192.168.xxx.xxx .   Look in the router that is providing the WiFi for the exact address or use a network scanner.  Then just type that address in a browser - that is your local connection. From there you can update.

    Hi Momos,

thanks for your response. I thougt I would get a notification or something but I didn´t and saw your post (and yours, juras) only now. Will tick the "Follow topic" now, maybe that was missing.

    Back to the issue:

Using the IP address was my first attempt as well. It´s shown in the dashboard of my FritzBox (IPv4). But if I just type it in the browser I get a timeout but no connection. My PC is connected to the FB via Ethernet, so I tried the same with a smartphone which uses the same WiFi network as the gateway. But it did not help. Same error. http, https, nothing at all ... always the timeout.

For that reason I tought it was the wrong way and posted my question here.

Connect your laptop to the same WiFi or same LAN as your HomeCenter. Then open a browser and go to:

Please login or register to see this link.

That site will scan your network and find all HomeCenter devices, show its serial number, IP Address and even has a "open" button to bring you to the login screen.

IMHO it works best if you use Chrome browser and it can take a "refresh" to get all devices.

If that site does not list anything, you have a network issue.

If it does find your HC you should be able to connect and update your firmware.

If you still have issues, I still suspect a "network issue", please post IP Address, Subnet Mask and Default Gateway of (a) your PC and (b) your HomeCenter.

    Do not use

Please login or register to see this link.

if you want to update the firmware, that is not a "local connection"

Unfortunately no success. "No Home Center Found". Does it find HC only or the Yubii boxes as well? The box is in principle working. I can use the web interface as well as the app to control the actuators.

PS: Regarding the IP addresses ... I don´t see any strange things there in the WiFi section:

    Status: Activated
    Main Network: Connected
    Emergency Network: Not selected

    Connection Type: DHCP
    IP-Address: 192.168.179.5
    Sub net mask: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway: 192.168.179.1
    DNS 1: 192.168.179.1
    DNS 2:

I cannot edit there anything though because I am in the remote connection mode.

Is there any way to get back to the local Wifi of the box without losing its configuration? The documentation only mentions reboot and recovery but it does not clarify what latter is. The only thing which is said in that context is switching between static and dynamic IP address. It´s really annoying.

I cannot judge that without knowing the same settings of your PC. I can say it does not look "abnormal".

I am trying to establish if there is an error in the subnet mask.

Another possibility is that your Router is filtering (through some firewall mode) data - which might confuse the "local" detection mechanism. IIRC port 9999 has to be "open".

You probably have tried this already but to be on the safe side:

    - reboot your router and try again. I have seen routers "crash" and do weird things to connectivity...

    - reboot your Yubii

    - try

    Yes

Please login or register to see this link.

works with any gateway manufactured by Fibaro.

    I quote from the manual

Please login or register to see this link.

    Alternative configuration

    (...)

Go to find.fibaro.com (use 10.42.0.1 if you connect to Wi-Fi network created by the gateway and go to step 4).
List of all gateways in your home network will be displayed.
Click Open next to gateway you want to configure.

Mmmm excellent question. You are referring to the 10.42.0.1 address mentioned above. Typically you only use the built-in WiFi once, to get started, and at that point in time the HC/YUBII will be in "factory reset mode".

What you could try - though I suspect this is not very easy - is to connect both your laptop and your HC to a different access point (eg family, friends)

Recovery means booting while holding a button, you will then enter a special recovery menu. This allows you to factory reset, restore, upgrade etc.

There is a brief description under header "maintenance" here:

Please login or register to see this link.

Make sure you have a FULL backup of your system before entering recovery mode. Without valid backup, you might loose data.

Okay, thanks for the hints ... it would surprise me if you would need to do something in the router to get access to the gateway but it´s a good point.

I have checked fritz.box/Internet/Freigaben/Port/Portfreigaben (Permit Access/Port Sharing). There are no active items. I could add something for the gateway but to be honest I don´t know what to select there ;)

In parallel I followed a hint from some website regarding telnet. So I tried telnet 192.168.179.5 9999 but got a connection error after some time which is said to be an indicator that the used port is closed. The question is whether it´s closed on the PC or on the FB or on both. As the same happens on PC and 2 smartphones I would assume that it´s on the FB which is the common piece for all 3 devices.

Yes we are definitely in the area of "this is very unlikely but check anyway" because the obvious stuff has been checked.

Mmmm I do not know your router but I can assume that is nothing is listed there then that part is for opening ports from the internet towards your gateway aka "ingress" and indeed that makes no sense.

This tells me you are not getting there, or the service on port 9999 is not active.

I do not have telnet on my Macbook (that is progress for you - LOL) but I have nmap installed:

Please login or register to see this code.

It is not documented, but based on what we know those ports make sense

This is a HomeCenter 3 but I will retest with a Yubii

BTW IIRC I have used "zenmap" on my windows PC a long time ago, you can get it from

Please login or register to see this link.

It is a tool worth knowing if you are a bit security minded though its options and command flags are a bit daunting. But to scan a HC you don't need all the details.

I cannot even ping 192.168.179.5. According to nmap the gateway is down also. How did you draw the above report? You did not paste the command parameters there.

Reminder: I did that from the PC which is on Ethernet but not on the Wifi the gateway is on. If that might be an issue I would need to try again with a laptop. But there I could not use nmap.

That definitely is a network problem. A Fibaro/Nice does respond to ping. Always.

You have a network issue. Well that was already suspected by @Momos but we still have not figured out what kind of network issue

    10 minutes ago, krza said:

    nmap 192.168.0.51

That's all there is to it...

This is the result of my Yubii system:

    Nmap scan report for 192.168.0.218

    Host is up (0.072s latency).

    Not shown: 992 filtered ports

    53/tcp   closed domain

    80/tcp   open   http

    443/tcp  open   https

    500/tcp  open   isakmp

    5060/tcp closed sip

    5061/tcp closed sip-tls

    9999/tcp open   abyss

I am assuming that you have not created an elaborate network setup.

Technically speaking your ethernet and your WiFi are switched or bridged networks that belong to the same broadcast domain

Since "broadcast domain" is a rather technical term I would translate translate that to these statements:

    - all devices have an IP address in the same range (based on your info that is 192.168.179.X)

    - all devices on your LAN all your devices on WiFi can ping all other devices (unless the have "icmp" disabled which is unlikely).

Or in other words, your network does NOT have a router between any parts, expect for the "outside world".

Also, in other words, you do not have a NAT (or even "double NAT") on your LAN/WiFi network.

This represents the typical home network when you get an internet connection from an internet provider, with some sort of "gateway" device/box offered by your provider, which hands out DHCP addresses and all devices - WiFi and LAN - can "surf".

As soon as more gateways, access points, routers, linux firewalls are added to this mix, things can get complicated.

The typical setup works with "nmap" and with "find.fibaro.com" (see screenshot) and will allow you to update your system:

Please login or register to see this image.

    /monthly_2022_12/1367568323_Screenshot2022-12-20at13_48_08.png.e4accfc66f38e571490615b2267d39d1.png" />

So either your network is more complicated or something is "misconfigured". At the moment, ping, nmap and find.fibaro.com all agree that your Yubii is unreachable. Yet you seem to be able connect to its management page - either port 80 or 443. A possible explanation is an active firewall on your network. Possibly it is your internet router which I assume is also yout WiFi access point.

PS: Have done a ping with a laptop in the same WLAN as the gateway is in without response ... wait a moment ... it´s the guest WLAN ... maybe there is something configured out ... let me check ...

Okay, at the first glance there were no restrictions but there was a little hint wrt filters, and there a guest profile was activated. I have removed the filters and in addition to that I have ticked the box that devices can communicate with eachother in the network. Don´t know yet what it was but ... I am in now ... it was so clear that it was such a dumb and silly fact. Sorry for all the time it has consumed. I will check which setting exactly it was. Maybe it´s at least a lessons learnt for someone else in the future 🙂

It´s not very nice on the smartphone where I tried it now but I assum that it will work on the laptop as well. On the PC it still does not work but this is more or less clear.

I will report back if it had worked at the end ...

It was this tick box. So if the devices cannot communicate with each other, it does not work. The internet filter don´t play a role (in its default status).

Update has worked now. All devices are still there, so all good now as it seems. Thanks again.

Glad you sorted it out :)   Enjoy the update now and do not forget to make a full backup first. NEVER rely on the auto backups when doing an upgrade.

Regarding provider routers - i advice everyone NOT to use the box provided by the cable operator, as many times those do weird things.  Instead have a router after it and make that the primary router.

I've even seen such a router provided by the cable operator (a huawei router) where until i disabled the 5Ghz network i could not set up the HC3Lite.   It was making a mess of a WiFi network.
