how do i find the right "string action_name"

Is there a place or way I can find out which "string action_name" to use.

hub.call(number device_id, string action_name, …).

There is so much confusion on the internet. is it color or setcolor.

I'm trying to find examples to operate a hue lamp.

But don't know if the examples are for the HC2 or 3. And whether they can be used with or without a HUE bridge.
