HC2 won't reset, LEDs light up and fade to off, please advise

Question

Posted

Hi everyone, so my HC2 froze again (happens every now and then) but this time my attempts to reboot and to reset were all in vain. If I enter recovery mode, the LEDs flash and fill from the other side but once they are all lit, they fade to OFF and the unit still does not connect. Tried holding the button for longer to reset it to stati IP and tried connecting to 192.168.81.1, but still no luck. What else can one try? This is super frustrating, any help will be appreciated.

Try to disconnect power cord, then keep pressed power button and connect back power cord keeping power button for more few seconds.

Consider replacing battery on the HC2 motherboard. You will need CR2032 with leads soldered on it, something like this:

It is much easier to solder connector wires to this leads than to battery itself. Soldering directly on battery can damage it.

BTW - when HC2 is rebooted in recovery mode it is possible to get IP address different than what is setup in Configuration. Best way to find it is to use Fibaro finder application on your PC.

You could also try checking the power supply, it may have died. Given your symptoms of fading lights, you might need to check it with a multimeter while under a load.

Thank you for the suggestions, but unfortunatelly, no luck. The power brick is fine, the unit stays on (the LAN LED is blinking irregularly). When it was still working, I had it set to dim the blue status LEDs (I don't need my office bathed in blue light at night), so I assume that is expected behaviour, that it fades to off once it boots completely. But I still can't connect. Not using Fibaro Finder, not using 192.168.81.1 with direct connection to the PC set to the same network. I changed the CR2032 battery for a new one, no change. :( Any other ideas? I tried plugging the ethernet directly to the switch in case the wall socket was faulty, but no luck.

I had the same issue. The LEDs were blinking in a right-to-left pattern during the boot process, simulating a progress bar. Once all LEDs stabilized, they faded off, and the device powered down.

I checked the power supply unit (PSU) with a multimeter, and the voltage appeared to be within the acceptable range. Despite this, I opted to replace the power supply, and to my surprise, everything is now working perfectly fine. The original PSU (12V, 4A) must have been corrupted to provide enough current: at first, the device started, but as soon as the current consumption was increased my HC2 died. I have replaced it with a little stronger unit (12V, 4.74A).

There is also another thread on this issue:
