The Fp2 is the successor to the Fp1, which is not yet on the market. The Fp1 is indeed for sale through Aliexpress. I also have 2 in the living room. And they do their trick very well. The Fp1 is zigbee, this new version is over Wifi. Maybe then it's a bit easier to implement in the HC3. Since the Fp1 can only be used with zigbee2mqtt in Homeassistant for the time being.

@MacinZ Interresting, though:

Maximum range of respiratory presence: 2-3m in diameter

Maximum range of minor presence: 3-4m in diameter

Maximum range of motion presence: 5-8m in diameter

I think 3-4m is not enough.

@ppeterr What about the maximum range of respiratory presence from Fp1 ?

I see some very usefull options here.....didn't know that that kind of sensors exists.

About 5 to 6m,  i use 2 of them to cover up the whole living room. In combination with 2 motion/lux sensors.

Also, these sensors detects movement like "entering a zone" "approaching a sensor" and "moving away from the sensor"

Here you see the 2 Fp1 sensors.. Both detect "home" so there is prescense. One of them detects "enter" And the other detects "away"

So, this means someone walked from the kitchen sensor "away" into the living room.

The normal movement sensors didnt detect anything. Or already switched back to detecting again.

So you can imagine how usefull this can be for lightning scene's

TL;DR is:

Aqara Previews New Devices for 2023

2023-01-05

(...)

Presence Sensor FP2 is a revolutionary addition to the Company’s wide-ranged sensor lineup. Based on the millimeter wave (mmWave) radar technology, the FP2 detects human presence even when the person is sitting still. It enables zone positioning, which allows users to define different zones within a room such as the bed, the dresser, or the sofa area, and the presence in each of these individual zone can trigger different automations for a more customized experience. Other features include multi-person detection, fall-detection and a built-in light sensor.

(...)

These devices from Aqara will become available for purchase in the following months.

It might take some time to get added to Z2M, then a firmware update to fix some bugs, we do not know that yet... So I would say Q3 of 2023

Yeah but before you buy this, you might want to understand this device might use the "Harmony Model". I'll explain what that means:

    I quote:

Please login or register to see this code.

Another user independently called it Harmony because ... "This is what I call “The Harmony Model.” The Logitech Harmony hub works like that. It’s fine with no internet connection as long as you never need to change anything on it."

I have have a harmony remote that has been stuck in the past for more than 10 years because Logitech ended the "cloud service". It still works, but you cannot change it.

Not sure if i understand you correctly, but i have a elite+hub i can change anything through the android app or synch with the windows software.

Anyyway i'm not so sure this new fp2 is worth the upgrade. I have 2 fp1's doing there job perfect.  Also they are twice as expensive.

Well it might depend on the exact model you have. My Harmony Remote definitely does (or did) not have any update capabilities because the "server" part at Logitech no longer exists. The software I used "seemed" to run locally but it actually needed a server par that isn't available anymore. I cannot send a reference because I do not use the remote and cannot remember its exact model number. But on the Logitech support site I can only find pictures of remotes manufactured right after I bought mine. In am definitely not imagining that they made changes impossible. I am not sure if they somehow added compatibility for those older devices, and I haven't checked there site in a very long time... There is a long list of model numbers...

Please login or register to see this link.

"Harmony has moved away from a website application and now uses either the MyHarmony desktop software and/or Harmony mobile app, depending on your remote. The website login has been phased out."

IIRC my remote at the time was firmware or software 6.X-ish and they do mention compatibility if your device ran 7.X

But this is a > 10 year old history lesson: do not assume that if you buy the hardware, you will also own and be able to use the tools to configure and maintain your hardware

Well i actually only used the hub for turning on/off the tv :P  But since there is a WebOS HA integration thats also not needed anymore.

Everything smarthome got a nice review. This link below  starts at the point about the fp2 needing internet connection to work.

  • mmm ... if there's one thing I don't like so much, it's that a device needs internet to function.

The Agara FP1 sensor has 2 functions. The events are very usefull. If you dont need zone detection or lux measurement. This one is good enough.

detects presence - yes or no

detects presence events - enter - leave - approach - away
