RGBW Controller connected/hanging off a Relay Switch

Hi guys,

I have a setup from an installer that wasn’t too smart about the setup.

My setup:

 1) An LED strip under the kitchen bench that has Fibaro RGBW controller attached to it.

2) the controller is power by 12V power supply that sits next to it at the base of the cabinet.

3) the power (240v) to the power supply is controlled by a wall switch.

4) Wall switch has Fibaro relay switch connected.

The challenge:

1) Wall switch cuts the power to the RGBW controller hence the comms to the gateway.

2) let’s say in 3-4 hrs later I turn on the all switch, the LED doesn’t turn on.. I have to use an app to do so.

Things tried so far:

1) Association in the current setup state it doesn’t work as power gets cut off to the RGBW controller.

2) (a) I bypassed / tricked the relay by removing the load (Q) from it and hardwiring the power to LED power Supply (Q).

2) (b) then I created an association on the relay for the controller.
2) (c) this setup works to an extent that it turns on the LED BUT the issues are:

- Brightness is the lowest;

- default colour of white;

- last setting not remembered (brightness or colour).

Question:

How best I can have this setup so that it works as best as I can make it work in the current setup. Don’t want to spend money re-wiring.

any suggestions.
thanks in advance

@Nuj-nujHello and welcome to the community.

Set parameter 1 to 1 on the RGBW Controller.

With my Fibaro RGBW Contoller this is working. It won't restore one of included programs, only colors.

  • Hello Fabir, thanks for that I will give that a go.

    I have a further question,

    behind the same switch plate I have another Fibaro module (Dimmer 2), can I simply:

    • Use S2 position of it (which is currently free).
    • Connect the wall switch for LED to S2 (of dimmer module).
    • Create EndPoint 2-Group2(on/off) association the LED Controller.

    This way I will free up Fibraro Relay module which is not doing much other than triggering the associated device?

    @Nuj-nujI haven't used S2 so far.

    According to the user manual

    Please login or register to see this link.

    , S2 can be used to start scenes and for associations. Give it a try.

  • The above worked.

    next challenge is to see if there is a way for LED controller to remember its last state (colour/mode and brightness) when turned on.

    btw, I noticed if  a long press on the wall switch, toggles the led brightness between dim and bright.
