Is it designed obsolescence

RohitNz

Question

First the HC2 died about 5 years after purchase.  Now the HCL has died just after 5 years from purchase.  Symptoms are the same.  Flashing leds - which looks like in factory reset or recovery mode.  But no response on the browser at the usual address or 192.168.81.x

Has anyone else had similar issues ?  At this rate this is going to be an expensive exercise, not to mention very time consuming to upgrade when it happens.

  • I did try the recovery process but it does not show up in the browser.  The HC2 was the same - I had to move to HC3 in a hurry.

Just to be sure, there is no interference,  I am trying on my laptop with wifi disabled.  In IPV4 config, I tried with

    1. Obtain IP address automatically
    2. 192.168.81.x (what some sites say to use)
    3. 192.168.1.x  (what I use normally)

The browser cant see it, fing cant see, Fibaro Finder cant see it.

On the HCL, the lights are flashing from out to in and then back out again.

    • And its spookily about 5 years for each, they were being used in different houses, so not power supply etc.
    • I am wondering if onboard memory is stuffed or did it have a button battery ?
    • The HC2 did, which I replaced, it went into recovery mode once and then crashed again.

I also have the identical problem but at 6 years old.  It is working fine but I wanted to update thw software which need recovery mode.  Support says my HCL is damaged and needs to be returned for warrantee repair, but it is more than 2 years old so no good!

    Worrying lack of support.
