Does Backup / Restore feature include z-wave devices?

Question

Posted (edited)

Hello,
I've got a supposedly simple question to which I couldn't find the answer to.

I'm looking into switching my z-wave controller and am considering to buy a HC3L.

My main aim is to have a robust and easy to recover solution, i.e. when the hardware brakes, I expect to quickly buy a new one (or have a second on stock), then do a Restore and everything continues to work as expected.

During my research I figured, that although almost hubs (if not all) do offer some sort of  Backup/Restore Feature in many cases the backups only include the logic, scenes, interface, etc, but fail to recover the z-wave devices, requiring them to be included newly, which is a big effort.

So the question is, does the HC3L support a "simple & quick" Backup/Restore including all z-wave devices?

Many thanks

Stefan

Nope,

backup restore works only on the same controller that has saved the backup

    Hello @cag014.

Many thanks for the reply. I'm confused. That means if my hardware is defective and I would have to buy a new HC3L, the backup will not restore completely? I would have to re-include all z-wave devices manually?

    Many thanks for clarifying.

I've approached Fibaro Support and they say that a backup/restore (incl zwave device config) would be possible.

At least from HC3 to another HC3 or from HC3L to another HC3L.
    The referred to this manual:

@sjstroblAfter reading the manual about this topic, it is still not clear. When you have a broken HC3L, you can restore a cloud backup to a new HC3L? Did the Fibaro support confirm that? Because this process is not decribed. Do you need to contact the Fibaro support in order to do that?

    Hi @Fabir,

from my understanding the restore from a cloud backup can be done by myself.

This is the Email I've received:

    Quote
From our gateways, it is possible to transfer the configuration from a damaged gateway to a new gateway.
This is perform by transfer of cloud backup on the new gateway. Migration is performed according to the procedure on the page:

Please login or register to see this link.

Migration from Home Center 3  can be performed only to Home Center 3.
Migration from Home Center 3 Lite  can be performed only to Home Center 3 Lite.

@sjstroblOK thank you. Let's hope we don't need to do that.
