Dimmer 2 fgd-212 Overheating on dimmable LEDS

Question

Posted

Dimmer 2 in the kitchen when dimmed cuts of with the error "The device is overheating or the temperature in the room is dangerously high."

I installed another dimmer 2 and get the same issue I have around 20 LEDS Dimmable spot lights so max load of around 110W and have also installed a bypass module.

Any ideas ?

Is everything on a single circuit? The issue might be the startup current surge for LED lamps. Try breaking it down into smaller circuits with separate dimmers. You can later synchronize them through associations

sorry all on a single circuit BTW the problem persists when it's been dimmed for some time

at full power all is ok.

    correct full power is ok,

total power is 110w so in theory dimmer should be able to cope no ?

This is so annoying so any help appreciated currently unusable when dimmed.

The fact that you only see this when you are dimming tells me that your issue is related to the drivers in your brand of led lights. It's not uncommon to have compatibility issues. If these are standard plug in type lights, then try unplugging half of them. If the issue goes away, you can split the circuit and install another dimmer on the other half as suggested by MacinZ. Or you could try replacing all lights for ones of a different brand.

Yeah there's no driver just straight GU10 240v

unfortunately will be massive cost to replace all my LEDs

@Biggie Just jesterday I've had a dimmer2 module, not dimming any more. After exclude / include again, it's working as expected.

I know you've tested with two dimmers already.

Did you have the LED's connected when you included the dimmer to the controller?

I have 8 Fibaro dimmer 2 installed since 2016 and since they are installed behind switches I never checked if they are overheating, but even if they are, it doesn't matter since they work now for 6 years. Still, I can't say that everything is OK. Problem is that sometimes they get crazy and start changing brightness level on their own and usually this ends with the lowest possible brightness. This craziness happens randomly and not at the same time of day so it is difficult to find the reason. Anyway, bypass and soft reconfiguration does not help. They are connected to HC2 on latest and last 4.630. Connected bulbs are all from Osram.
