Does hub.setGlobalVariable not work inside QuickApps?

Question

Posted

Context: I am trying to create a quick app which on init will set a global variable with it's id:

`hub.setGlobalVariable("QuickAppID", tostring(self.id))`

But if I try to retreive it in the next line:

`local quickAppID = hub.getGlobalVariable("QuickAppID")`

It comes out empty.

Furthermore - since I saw examples with implementations for get and set global variables, do they live in memory after the HC3 device boots? Or are they fetched via HTTP requests? Trying to figure out their performance :)

Have you created the variable first? If the variable doesn't exist it's a nop.

We don't want to know how it's implemented - we just want it to be quick ;-)

gives us that a set and a get together takes ~= 0.003558588 seconds, or ~3.6ms
