Passing through a mains powered device when the mains power fails

Question

Posted

Hi All

I am using HC3 as the central control for an alarm system, part of which will turn on mains powered security lights when an intrusion occurs.

If the mains power fails the HC3 and all battery operated sensors will continue to operate, but Z-Wave switches controlling those security lights will not operate.

This creates a problem for HC3 tasks following those failed switches because the operation loop stalls for quite some time.

Is there a way that HC3 can detect a mains failed switch, pass through it and continue with the next task in the loop with no appreciable delay. Currently about 40 seconds depending on type of failed switch

 Regards Ron H.

How are you powering the HC3 when mains fail do you mean? A UPS/Powerbank?

If so I guess one way would be to have the HC3 connected to the mains via a energy metering device such as the wall plug. When it reports power usage below a set threshold and/or registers low voltage you can trigger actions. (such as killing stuck scenes...)
