Holding down light button: decrease brightness instead of increase?

Question

Posted

Hi all,

I have installed Fibaro Dimmer 2 in all of my light buttons (pulse buttons).

When pressed once, the light toggles on/off. When holding down the light button, the light starts dimming.

By default, the light increases in brightness. When let go an held down again, the light decreases in brightness.

I would like to reverse this action: when held down the first time after turning the light on, the brightness should decrease instead of increase

Any help as how to achieve this is highly appreciated!

Maybe this order first increase second decrease was designed this way because you also have the double click to get the maximum brightness.

Then it would be more useful to do it the other way around, wouldn't it?:

    - Clicking once turns the light on.

    - When brightness is too high, click and hold to decrease brightness.

    - When brightness is too low, double click to instantly reach maximum brightness.

    Instead it works like this:

    - Clicking once turns the light on.

    - When brightness is too high, one has to first click and hold to increase brightness, then let go and click and hold again to decrease brightness.

    - When brightness is too low, double click to increase to maximum.

So both actions after turning on the light have the same effect: an increase in brightness.

The use case is by the way: baby wakes up in the middle of the night, I turn on the light, it burns both my eyes and my babies', I try to decrease brightness (which first increased brightness even further causing more burning of the eyes), baby starts crying, I start sweating due to high levels of stress, I finally get to decrease brightness to the minimum level after holding down the button for the second time, baby slowly settles, things turn back to normal.

Digging in my memory, I think you can relate the button click to a script. So you can pre-set the brightness based on, for example, bedtime.

That might be a good idea. I already use scripts like for some of my lights that are connected to motion sensors.

So, only a quick eye-burn before the script kicks in... ;-)

Maybe it is possible to turn the brightness low at the end of the script? So next time it starts with low brightness and goes to the right setting based on the bedtime?

Yes, I will need 2 variables: time of day (morning, afternoon, evening, night) and 'awake/sleep'.

Only when night and sleep are true, brightness must be set to a specifiek level. And then a reset when it turns morning again.
