Dimmer 2 - 5s to power back on after power loss??

Hi!

 

I just installed a Dimmer 2 unit and have noticed it takes about 5s to turn back on after power loss. 

Is this expected behaviour? 

My setup is providing dimming function to the lights in an overhead fan.  Typical function of the wall switch (a ZWave smart switch) cuts power to the whole unit, so having the resume function was key. I didn't realize it would be so slow!

 

Is there a setting to adjust this?

No you can't change it, there is going to be a small delay when power comes back on (the device is "booting up").  You should wire the Dimmer 2 so that it always has power, and connect the switch to the S1 input.  See manual for wiring diagram.

It's not really possible given that the fan needs to function at the same time and they are a single unit, meaning one connection (hot wire) coming from the wall switch. (We want to maintain control of the fan at the wall switch) I'd have to get another mini relay to control the fan to separate them and I'm not sure if I'd be able to fit it all into the housing.

The delay isn't 'small' either, 5s is an eternity in semiconductor time. I might see if changing the soft-start settings will make it faster.
