New iPhone, new device number not generated

Question

Posted

I recently bought a new iPhone, and transferred all my apps and data from the old one. This includes the two apps for my HC2, the old Fibaro app and the newer Yubii app. They both immediately accessed the HC2 as before, and display the HC2 values correctly. However, when I check the HC2 interface Configuration/Access control/Mobile units list, my new phone is not on that list. I recognize the UDID for my old phone and the corresponding device id, but not the new one.

I need to identify my new phone as a device, to update my scenes to send push messages to the correct id. It seems that the data transfer from old to new iPhone bypasses the trigger which automatically generates a new device when the Fibaro/Yubii apps are first installed. How do I make the HC2 recognize that there is a new iPhone to include in the list? Do I need to reinstall the apps?

Answering my own question: I have succeeded in giving my new iPhone a device number, by de-installing and reinstalling one of the apps. Here are some learning points from this exercise (some found in earlier forum posts):

    • Device numbers for mobile devices may be found in the web interface by going to Configuration - Access control. Scroll down to the bottom where there is a list called Mobile devices, each identified by a generic name ("iPhone") and a cryptic identifier. Right-click on the check box to the left and choose Inspect. A window appears to the right, looking something like this:

    • Noting the device numbers for all mobile devices, one can easily test which is which by sending a test push message. I used a simple LUA script like this:

Make sure to check all the boxes in your mobile device list first. You should also warn all users that a push message is coming, and ask them to check that their phone/pad is set up to show push messages from the Fibaro app(s).

    • In the dialogue below user Orgli provides a way to change the name of these devices (e.g. from "iPhone" to "John's iPhone"). This is useful once you know which devices are still active, and belongs to whom. Remove check boxes from the rest, or delete them - they are probably obsolete units.
    • A strange feature remains: After I had done the app de-/re-install and ran my push test, I received two messages on my new phone. One, with the old device number, was from the Yubii app, the other, with the new device number, was from the Fibaro app. The strange thing is that the Yubii app is the one I reinstalled, and the one that referred to the old device number. Fibaro's ways are some times unscrutable.

Good luck to anyone with outdated lists of mobile devices. I know I am not alone!
