Issues with Fibaro Home Center 2 After Power Loss

Question

Posted

Hi everyone,

I recently experienced a power loss, and since then, my Fibaro Home Center 2 has been acting up. Here are some of the issues I am facing:

Some light switches do not work as expected.

Motion sensors are switching on random lights they should not be controlling.

Other devices are showing erratic behavior.

I have tried rebooting the system, checking connections, checking firmware (it's up to date) but the issues persist. Has anyone else experienced similar problems?

Also, is there any remote support available from Fibaro where a technician can diagnose and fix these issues directly?

I appreciate any help or suggestions.

Thank you,

Girts Laudaks

Hi @Girts ,

I can see from your recent post:

that you are still struggling with your HC2 which is unfortunate. I guess that Fibaro support reacted only once with some suggestions and then forget about you. Well to be honest I'm not surprised since most of the troubles that users have are caused by users themselves and not by the system as such. I still believe that it is not right to stop with support.

Anyway, your original post with problems described in very general way, without specifics usually does not lead to the support that can help.

To be honest, my HC2 with 116 z-wave devices included (mostly Fibaro) and with 102 scenes and 149 VD's experienced several power loses in the last few years and never ended up with any erratic behavior of any devices, at least not caused by power loss. I did have some strange behavior in this last few years and most were caused by Fibaro RGBW modules having some strange associations added. After cleaning this associations everything get back to normal operation. Also in this last few years few of the Fibaro devices started acting strangely or completely stopped working, but that is something expected since they were actually broken. replacing them with new ones again solved problem.

So, now if you are willing to share with us here details of your problems, we might help you.

REMEMBER - Fibaro system is using USER MADE scenes and virtual devices, so whenever there is something strange happening it is always good practice to check those before contacting Fibaro support. Fibaro is not obligated to give support for poorly made user scenes and virtual devices. Thank you for your understanding :-)

Also check if it is any Installers (often electicans) close to your area :) They might be able to help.

I checked here in latvia and only found 1 installer 😅 6 distributors, but they might be able to help too(might be installers too)

    Unfortunately, the issue is not related to incorrectly configured scenes or to the power loss. There were some hallucinations before, just not so significant. It seems that the power loss triggered a restart, which caused everything to start acting strangely.

    Fibaro tech support connected to my HC2 remotely, attempted some fixes that didn’t work, and then sent the message below before stopping communication. This has essentially left me stranded with the problem. What should I do next? Should I remove all RGBW controllers? Why are they sold if they are not functioning or causing issues to the whole system?
    I even inquired whether upgrading to HC3 would resolve the issue but received no response.

    This is a scene that removes unwanted associations with RGBW, and this is the reason for the incorrect behavior of these devices. The scene is run manually, but you can create a block scene that will run the LUA scene automatically at specific times.
    The instructions look like this:

    1) please create a LUA scene and paste the following content into it (the scene does not contain the lines that appear by default in a new LUA scene, so please paste the content under the "--]]" characters from line 5):

    class 'Device'

    function Device:__init(t)

        self.parentId = t.parentId
    end

    function Device:toJson()
        local t = {
            id =

    ,

            name =

    ,

            parentId = self.parentId,
        }
        return t
    end

    function Device:setAssociationGroup(associationGroupId, associationList)
        fibaro:call(

    Please login or register to see this link.

    , "associationRemove", associationGroupId);

        local associationObj = {}
        associationObj["groupingId"] = associationGroupId
        associationObj["singleChannel"] = associationList
        fibaro:call(

    Please login or register to see this link.

    , "associationSet", json.encode(associationObj));

        fibaro:call(

    Please login or register to see this link.

    , "associationGet", associationGroupId)

        return false
    end

    local devices = api.get('/devices?type=com.fibaro.FGRGBW441M')

    for _,dev in ipairs(devices) do

    --  Get data for type device com.fibaro.FGRGBW441M
        local currentDev = api.get('/devices/' ..

    Please login or register to see this link.

    )

    --  Ger root Device for set association
        local rootDevice = Device(api.get('/devices/' .. currentDev.parentId))
        print("set Association devId: " ..

    Please login or register to see this link.

    );

    --  Set Max Grup associaiton in device type FGRGBW441M
        local maxGroup = 5;
        for i=1, maxGroup do
    --  Remove Set Get Associaton Group
        rootDevice:setAssociationGroup(i,{1});
        end

    end

    2) please create a block scene that will run the above scene, e.g. once a day, at night.

    Unfortunately, at the moment this is the only workaround for the problem that our Engineering team is working on.
    We apologize for the inconvenience, we try to make every effort to ensure that the system is stable, but sometimes similar cases occur.

    Hi @Girts ,

    if RGBW module associations is the only problem in your case, then I'm surprised that you didn't solved them for so long time. There are several threads with this topic here on forum. Also, I solved this problem without running any scenes since it is easy to check associations for any device on their Advanced tab, button [Setting Association]. Have you try that and checked that RGBW module is ONLY associated with your HC2?

    Also, even I had same problem, it was only once as I remember in all this 9 years having HC2 and 6 RGBW modules. So, whats the fuss? I even had to rebuild my home automation two times from scratch with more than 80 z-wave devices that I had in that time. Still, it was more to me, than to Fibaro. I was just learning in that time and making mistakes. Partly this goes on Fibaro due to the lack of proper documentation, but there are another useful literature on z-wave networks, that I just didn't consult on time.

    I'm sorry, but sometimes I just get sick of people who do not want to invest their time and money, but still expects miracles and that others MUST make them happy.

    NOTE - I'm not referring to you, just expressing my frustration on definitely wrong place and apologies are in place!!!

    Also, people that need help, but are too lazy to write more than two short sentences and then expect that others will help with more than two sentences. If can't write more than two sentences because of not understanding the issue, then why even bother start doing something not willing to learn?

    Thanks for the advice. I honestly don’t know if it’s the RGBW causing the issues—I’m not an installer, just an end user stuck with a broken system. Are there any professional service providers who can debug a Fibaro system, check logs, and figure out what’s wrong?

    I understand that everyone has different levels of experience with these systems, and I respect the effort you’ve put into mastering yours. My frustration comes from investing time and money into this setup, expecting a certain level of stability and support, especially when problems arise that seem beyond basic user error or configuration.

    Thanks again for your insights.

    Thanks for this. Sadly the local installers are not able to help.

    @Girts I my self are a installer, but I have never made a fresh install with HC2 😄
    Only added some devices or automations(very basic).

    @Sankotronic You got Hc2, maybe you can take a picture of the assosicasion on an rgbw with only the controller so he can compare the picture to his rgbw modules? 😁
