Can't get Dimmer 2 to work with a Mean Well LED Driver

Question

Posted (edited)

I have an installed Dimmer 2 that has been working fine on a simple LED bulb.  I have since swapped this bulb for a fancy LED Light that uses a Mean Well driver.  Other than a couple of flashes during config using parameters received from Fibaro support, I get nothing.

It's a 3 wire setup in the UK.  I did try replacing the old bulb to check I hadn't broken anything and this works fine, and I've tried just plugging the light into the mains without the Fibaro and that works fine, so I'm assuming it's some kind of config issue.

Parameters I think are relevant as follows:

13: 0 Readout

14: 0 Calibration not performed

15: 0 Burnt out bulb detection disabled

16: 0 Burnt out bulb detection disabled

30 and 31: Both 0 Leading Edge

32: Tried both 0 and 1 (light is dimmable but Fibaro support suggested trying it as non-dimmable)

33: 0 Load recognised as dimmable

35: 0 No auto calibration

38: 0 Auto brightness correction disabled

39: 0 Overload disabled

This is the fancy new light:

(described as TRIAC dimmable, dimming method = MAINS, and I'm told by the manufacturer that it uses a standard/common Mean Well driver)

Symptoms:

  • the Dimmer 2 will reconfigure itself every time I switch the light on or off (parameter 13 jumps to 1 and then to 0)
  • after the parameter 13 returns to zero the light toggle (in the UI) is switched off - the light itself doesn't come on during this few seconds of alternating between param 13: 1 to 0
  • twice after pressing SAVE after fiddling with various parameters the light has flash on for half a second before going off again - otherwise no bearing on its operation with the on/off button
  • Edit:  I woke up in the night last night and noticed that in the pitch dark the light is constantly flickering (at a usually imperceptibly low level)

Any suggestion very gratefully received

Thank you

Gareth

Have you done a calibration? This will set the high and low levels

Some small flickering is "normal" at low light levels for some bulbs

If the above doesn't help, you might just have an incompatible bulb model.

Hello.

..yes, dimming using a triac switch should be done by the leading (rising) edge.

However, it would not be the first case where a given resource is satisfied with a falling edge.

If you are sure that you have tried everything, including calibration (or manual level setting instead of automatic), then try changing parameter 30 = 1.

If this does not suit, then the only solution is to either turn off = 0%/ turn on = 100% mode, or replace the switched-on power source with another type of adjustable power source.
