How to use "else" in block scenes?

Question

Posted

Hi all,

I want to make a very simple scene: with the press of a button a playlist should start playing and the lights in my living room should turn on.

Preferably, during week days this should be a different playlist than during weekend days. So I want to make the following adjustment:

- When the button is pressed on week days (mon - fri), the 'week' playlist starts playing.

- When the button is pressed on weekend days (sat or sun), the 'weekend' playlist starts playing.

The problem is that I can add week or weekend days in the block scene in the IF section, but I cannot add an ELSE so that on other days the weekend playlist starts playing.

Can anyone help me with a workaround? Thanks!

Create variable depending on days of the week. Then use the variable as conditions.

Just create two scenes..thats it...One for weekdays, oneo for weekend days,,,thats the simpliest and easiest solution

I am using a single wall switch that triggers the scene.

Thought I had found a solution: link the wall switch to a signle scene that itself starts 2 new scenes simultaneously:

However, when one of these scenes is run manually (by hitting the play button) it just starts running and playing music, regardless whether the conditions (selected days) are met.

So when I run the weekend scene, it just starts even though it is currently Wednesday.

Running a scene manually will never consider any condition. It will do the action part regardless of your conditiions and triggers in the scene.

I see. This isn't working then.

Using a scene to start other scenes apparently has the same effect.

I dont understand your problem..What is not working??? What is the main goal??

This is a very simple scenario that you want to achieve..

Describe me what you wanna achieve?

You need a scene that triggers when you press a button? And according to the day it will start some different playlists?

In your screenshots of those scenes, you have only days of week on the condition side..These can not be triggered..days can act only as conditions..So you need to put the button press trigger together with days (as conditions) into the left side panel.

Yes, I am trying to create a block scene that is activated by pressing a switch that has a Fibaro smart dimmer installed in it.

Pressing this light switch should turn off my alarm, turn on the lights in the living room and start a certain playlist on Sonos on a preset volume.

The playlist that starts playing on weekdays is a different one than the one that starts playing on weekend days. It is all very basic.

At first I thought about using an ELSE command (which turns out not to be supported in block scenes). Then I tried making 2 different scenes both with the week / weekend days as condtions. This is not working either because Fibaro does not take these conditions into account.

I think it is a scene that is activated, not triggered, by a button (linked). Like this.

But in that way, the conditions won’t work. Just like manually starting a scene the conditions won’t work.

You have to make a scene (2) that activates on the trigger with the button (button pressed).
