Using Smart Implant with SD18B20 thermocouple attached

Question

Posted

I Have a major problem with getting 2 of my Smart Implants to ADD / Fully Configure. with my HC3 controller.

I have a new house where I will be installing a HC3 and HC3 Lite as slave. Both are Zwave V3 and current software V 5.161.15. I have been configuring this system in my old house in preparation for the new to be transferred to the new house shortly.
This issue refers to the new system HC3 + Slave. I have about 110 fibaro devices to add in. 6 of these are Smart Implants with SD 18B20 sensors attached. I have managed to get 3 of these added to the slave …. But the Adding process was slow and sometimes required multiple attempts to get all the functions to download. I have managed to add 2 more of these to the master controller  but the 3rd will not add and complete the process. I have tried 2 Smart Implants but neither works. All Smart Implants are on V5.2. I took the initial smart Implant and Added to my old house system (Zwave V2, current software). It worked straight away.   The inclusion process was a little different in that with the V2 HC3 the inclusion process finished with a green rectangle on the left hand side of the screen. That doest seem to happen on V3.
However attaching the Smart Implant to the old V2 system demonstrates that the SD18B20 is wired correctly and operational. Another aspect that I have noticed is that on the master element of the good devices … when added…. I can open the Advanced page and see the Input Configuration . When I try to open the same page on the 2 smart Implants that won’t add correctly I get ERROR 404.
The issue does not seem to be related to parameters as they are all set the same way and they worked in V2.
I don’t know what else I can do. The fault seems to be in the HC3 and its adding process.   I would greatly appreciate your advice. I have attached some images that might help your analysis .

I don't know if I can add something but sometimes the HCx will hang when add devices.

Restart HCx will tackle that.

If this is a solution in your case I doubt, rest to contact Fibaro.

To remind all cables must be connected if you add your implant

Succes

Hi @Mike MJ compliments on how you described your issue. I don't have the answer, probably you need Fibaro support to get you running. But just checking, are you aware you run a beta version of Z-Wave engine 3.0 and the beta version of the firmware on a Master/Slave configuration? You are kind of a beta tester for Fibaro?

Yes. I’m aware that there may still be a few bugs around but it doesn’t explain why I have 7 Smart Implants with DS18B20 sensors attached where 5 have added in either to the Master HC3 or slave HC3 Lite with the  Input Configuration section visible in the Advanced page. The two units that wont complete the Adding in process will not show the Input Configuration section .   If I can find a solution to getting these 2 units to complete Adding. I’ll be up and running.   Any ideas?

Thanks to SmartHome Eddy and Sjakie for your responses. I have tried all your suggestions and advice but the problem still exists. I am in discussion with Technical Support as well.   I’ll try calling them by phone .

Have you tried doing a factory reset and then adding the device again?
This may help with troublesome devices.

    Resetting to factory defaults
Reset procedure allows to restore the device back to its factory settings, which means all information about the Z-Wave controller and user configuration will be deleted.

Resetting the device is not the recommended way of removing the device from the Z-Wave network. Use reset procedure only if the primary controller is missing or inoperable.

Certain device removal can be achieved by the procedure of removing described.

    1. Press and hold the button to enter the menu.
    2. Release button when the device glows yellow.
    3. Quickly click the button to confirm.
    4. After few seconds the device will be restarted, which is signalled with the red colour.

So I'm curious what the technical support will answer.

Only one thing then occurs to me.

The two SIs who are bad at adding, aren't they in a place where they "see" both the master and the slave? Or is it problematic to add it to the slave, when it could be added to the master with a better signal?

I don't have a v3 engine, so I have no idea what the intricacies are. But only this thought occurs to me.

Move SI into close proximity to the controller you are adding it to. Add in insecure mode.

Yes. I have tried that on all the faulty Smart Implants.    No change in behaviour.   It could be that the ADD process is not completing for some unknown reason.

The faulty smart implants do not connect and operate in either the master or the slave controller. Good thinking though.

The matter has been referred to the software development people but there has been no response yet.
