Question

Is there a service issue? I can't find anything mentioned on here.  Email notifications have suddenly not worked on my HC2 4.130 since Oct 14th.   All settings and connections seem ok my end and I haven't made any recent changes.

Have you considered updating your hub?
You are on the version released more than 7 years ago, at some point (even because of security changes on the servers, updating the libs) some of the functions may stop to work, I am not sure that is the case here but you are asking for supporting you with the hub with the firmware developed a long, long time ago.

If you ask our support for help, they probably won't do anything anyway until the hub will be in current stable release.

To be honest I have always been scared to update after the many complications following the first couple of times I did do it,  I resorted to the 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' approach.

I just wondered if there was a general outage I should be aware of.

In addition to this (which may/may not be related) I have discovered all devices are unresponsive the the Alexa app. The skill is enabled and nothing has been changed network wise.   Any ideas folks?

I think you should have a serious look at the advice of m.roszak. Seven years is in Homeautomation a very looooooooong time.

    Hi @teeften ,

You should definitely update your HC2 to the latest stable firmware version. I suggest to do backup first and then skip making backup during the update process. If anything goes wrong you can then restore this last backup.

After successful update to the 4.630 then check everything and if looks good do backup again just in case something goes wrong later.

My HC2 is for long time on then latest 4.630 firmware and it is stable with no serious problems.

    Hi @Sankotronic

OK I'm getting the advice seems consistent which I cannot argue with.  Did your upgrade to 4.630 go smoothly with no modifications required afterwards?

    Hi @teeften ,

As I recall there was no problems with the upgrade, but I upgraded from 4.620.

Your HC2 is on really old firmware so I can't say if it will go without problems. Still, I believe that Fibaro support will help in case of any problems with upgrade to the latest firmware 🤞.

Also that is why I suggested that you do backup first and then skip making backup during the upgrade.

I also believe that no z-wave devices will be affected with this upgrade, but it is possible that some of the devices will need soft reconfiguration afterwards. I just do not have experience with upgrading form old firmware to the latest one. I was always upgrading my HC2 to the stable version as soon as they were published.

    Hi @teeften ,

I just checked and I guess that your HC2 is still making backups on that USB stick instead on the cloud? I think that cloud backup was introduced with 4.510 version:

Do you see on HC2 notification that newer firmware is available for download and installation and which one? Is it 4.630 or some other version that needs to be installed before going to the latest version?

    @Sankotronic

I've had a look around and firstly I always thought the backup was to a part of the internal drive, not a USB as per the screenshot of the storage below?

RE the upgrade I always thought this info and links were bottom of the general page (screenshot 1) but it seems to have disappeared!

    Hi @teeften ,

To check backup there should be a backup option under the Configuration menu. On older systems backup was stored on external USB stick connected on the side of the HC2 where network and power cable are connected.

For updates, if I still remember correctly they appear on general Information tab. If nothing is shown there then probably Fibaro already removed all older backups for HC2 from servers.

I think the best is to ask Fibaro support how to upgrade your HC2 from the old 4.140 to the latest 4.630. To make them more interested in helping you, tell them that you want to upgrade HC2 to latest firmware so you can then transfer your system to HC3 :-P :-D

I think you're right @Sankotronic Fibaro have given up on us early HC2 adopters as there always used to be an option to upgrade on that General Information tab but it seems to have disappeared this year, a little disappointing as the system was always claimed to 'future proof'.    I'll simply ask support where the upgrade option has gone and see what the response is.

But yes, the backup option is still there so that's something!  Thanks for your help.

Probably your hub FW is so old that now it can't connect to any of our services... So, alexa stopped working, updates invisible, no email notifications...

Support will help you update it manually :)
