My use case here is a downstairs light that I want to manage via three triggers, each with different logic branches in the scene (times, on until switched off, etc)

  • Upstairs switch from associated device will turn on downstairs light and run specific scene actions
  • Downstairs S1 for the downstairs light will turn light on and run specific scene actions
  • Downstairs motion detector will turn light on and run specific scene actions, and restart the timer aspect of those actions as further motion is triggered.

This is the first of two scenes I have this kind of behaviour on, and the much simpler one. As part of trying to get my head around HC3 LUA (and trying to avoid bringing these very complex HC2 scenes here asking for help), I am experimenting with sourcetrigger detection and reactions...so...

Where I have a secondary device switching a primary device via an association, and a scene listening for device triggers on both sides of that association, the sourcetrigger always reports a 'device' type trigger with the ID of the primary device - no trace of the secondary device that I am actually pressing the switch on.

I can understand the logic in that behaviour, and I also understand that associations are run directly between the two devices, so the behaviour is not that surprising....but it is not what I want here.

I'm guessing no one will have a way to differentiate and association triggered sourcetrigger, but does anyone have any suggestions on how else I might configure the relationship between the two devices to get what I want? I am guessing it's something to do with the scenetrigger type functionality on the master device, but that's a technique I have very little familiarity with.
