if I understand correctly self.token = "xxx" will be removed after QA restart, and self:setVariable will be left untouched.

The question is what is better to use to store the token from the API request?

Token is valid for 24h and there is option to refresh it.

You must have some approach to request the token when the QA starts.

It will look the same when the QA restarts, so why not request the token every time the QA (re)starts ?
Unless, of course, requesting the initial token requires manual interaction or is very cumbersome in some way...

To store it in a qa variable you need to record valid time in one way too, probably not worth the small optimization, and a potential source for errors...
