Smoke sensor FGSD -002 generate suddenly alarm

Question

Posted

Hi

I have 7 FGSD -002  (+ 25pc  FGSD -002 in another installation).

Sometime do I get an alarm in the group of 7, but no smoke or fire was detected. There is no record in history file, but a notification in my iPhone is present.

The sirene in FGSD -002 was also active for a while.

Obviously the FGSD -002 was trigged by something, but not of smoke or fire.

The sensitivity is put to low (3)

Is there any known  souloution to avoid this ?

- Upgrades

- Calibration

- Configuration

Best regards

Erik

I can see you got no replies/answer at all regrading this. I have identical issue. 7 smoke alarms FGSD002 that sporadically sound the alarm. Smoke detected status as I can see in home assistant and then after a few minutes it goes back to normal. 3 of my 7 have done this, weeks apart, they are correctly installed, 4-6months old and I dont know if I should seel them off and go with some other brand that does not have this issue.

Hi @erik.o.rosen@Lajnus,

don't know if this is your case, but in my case I was also getting some false fire alarms until I take my smoke sensors and cleaned them. All are purchased almost 10 years ago and worst case was with the one installed in kitchen.

Normally to clean it is good enough to use compressed air, but that one in kitchen also required cleaning with soft tissue soaked in warm water. No cleaning agents are to be used because they can make it even worst.

Since I'm working with fire detection systems I know they require cleaning, especially if are installed in dusty spaces or where there is high humidity and alike.

Our homes are dusty, more if there is more inhabitants and source of most of the dust are us and our skin 😛

Even there is no mention of dirt and cleaning in FGDS-002 manual it is normal that they will in time accumulate some dirt and therefore give false alarms. I'm working with professional systems that can recognize excess dirt and give alarm "dirty sensor". We can't expect from Fibaro similar feature, but even no one is ready to admit that his(her) house can be dusty, it is still the case :-D Not to mention kitchens with no fumes extraction above cooking appliances.

You can't expect to install such device and forget it for ever. This is safety device and requires maintenance at least once or twice per year. Cleaning and testing if you really want to be safe.

This night at 04:00 my Smoke Sensor went off in the kitchen - sadly - . It seems to be the problem area as i'm reading above -  I don't maintain or clean them. So this thread helps. I do understand we need to do so. However, i'm wondering what to clean and how. I have version 2 sensors. I sometimes put the dust cleaner on them to clean the dust "around" the sensor - They grey/metallic part where i guess the air is flowing through. Should i clean outside as well with a wet tissue/microvezel? Could somebody explain what the best cleaning procedure would look like?
