HC3L - Battery outage on Fibaro sensor

Question

Posted (edited)

I am about to loose power in a Fibaro Z-wave-temp and moving detector. There is a long travel to the site, so I was wondering how the HC3L will react, if the power of my oven will be kept on or being switched off. I am using scenes to control the temperature. Any ideas?

Best use a mains-powered (via USB) sensor, e.g. the one from Aeotec.

Thanks but my question is about how the HC3L responds now, as I am not able to go to site the coming weeks, and there is a chance of frost in the building.

    Hi @Tony R.,

usually when device go "dead" last measured temperature is still registered in the gateway and will not change of course.

How will this reflect on your scene depends of course how scene is made. If turning oven depends only on that one temperature sensor then oven will either not turn on if last temperature measured and reported to the gateway is above level for turning on, or will continuously heat if that last temperature measured and reported to gateway is below temperature to turn it off.

Best solution to avoid any problems with this in the future is to replace battery operated temperature sensor with the mains-powered one as @awlieser suggested.

Another solution might be that scene checks if sensor is "dead" and then put oven in its native auto mode if possible and stop gateway control, or just stops control and sends you notification so that you can use oven mobile app to put it in its own auto control (of course if available).

    Hi @Sankotronic

Thanks for good feedback and ideas. In the meantime, I am also thinking about changing the sensor in the actual scene - to use another relevant sensor in a neighbooring room, as a short term solution until I can go there and change the battery. Thanks again for good ideas!
