Philips HUE Bridge Pro and HC2/UHAS for HC2 smooth upgrade

Question

Posted

Hello all,

Today I have replaced two of my Philips HUE Bridges V2 with Philips HUE Bridge Pro.

Process with moving all my bulbs and devices from both bridges went smoothly and without any problems.

First HUE Bridge V2 that was controlling indoor 26 HUE lights and 1 switch in about 20 minutes. Note that bridge userID and all individual bulbs, devices and groups ID's are also transferred without changes.

Second HUE Bridge V2 that was controlling outdoor 17 HUE lights and 3 switches also took almost 20 minutes, but this time all bulbs, devices and groups get new ID's.

I'm using my UHAS for HC2 compatible HUE2 solution. All I had to do is change IP address in HUE2 Preview VD settings and after restarting it properly read all data from new HUE Pro bridge. For outside HUE groups and individual bulbs I also had to change HUE bulb/group ID on each VD to make them working.

All in all, transfer was quite painless and took me about 1 hour to do all necessary changes so that my HC2 with UHAS continue to work properly with HUE lighting.

Now I'm also ready to start work on my HC3 solution for Philips HUE.

This is great Zoran, looking forward to it !!

Will it be stand alone QA for HC3?

    Hi @Goran111,

All Yubii UHAS compatible devices will also work as standalone, but then it is possible that some features that relay on UHAS will not be available.

Just to give additional info regarding upgrading from Philips HUE Bridge V2 to HUE Bridge Pro.

As mentioned, if you have more than one old bridge, then only migrating first bridge will keep group, devices and scenes ID's. Migration of other bridges will be done with group, devices and scene to get new ID's. This will end with that all HUE2 Group Ctrl VD that control grups of bulbs with HUE scenes to stop working properly in UHAS.

Here is procedure how to make everything work again:

    1. Before start with migration remove IP address from all of your HUE1 Preview VD so that they do not make call tot he bridges.
    2. Make migration of the first bridge. Just follow instructions from HUE app.
    3. After first bridge is migrated and old one reset and removed, you can start with migration of other bridges following instructions.
    4. When all old bridges are migrated to the Pro and old reset and removed, go to your router and make sure that DHPC server will always give Pro bridge same IP address.
    5. Now put IP address in HUE2 Preview VD that was used for communication with your old bridge No. 1.
    6. After saving changes, HUE2 Preview VD will use scene to scan bridge and will get all necessary data. It will also find all HUE2 VD's that are set to control bulbs from old bridge No.1
    7. Now you need to check all other HUE2 VD's that were used to control bulbs from other bridges and in the main loop code setup variable huebridgeID to 1. Note that when you save VD and check main loop debug window you will see error that light is not found, but that is normal. Just do that for all HUE2 VD's that used another bridges.
    8. After all UHE2 VD's are setup to use huebridgeID = 1 then open HUE2 preview VD that was used to work with bridge no. 1 and click on button [♻️💡] to again update data from bridge and also to find all HUE2 VD's used to control HUE lights.
    9. When you did above you are almost done, but since ALC (Advanced Light Contols) is still using old HUE scenes ID's where used you will now need to relearn settings for all HUE lights that were controlled with other HUE bridges. NOTE that relearning is needed only for HUE grouped lights where HUE scenes are used. No further action is needed for individual HUE lights with color, color temperature and brightness is used and of course for HUE dimmable and white color temperature bulbs.
    10. Open ALC Config VD and select room where HUE light from additional old bridges is used and select first light scene (usually is morning). Put ALC Config VD for this scene in learning mode using learning button [🧑‍🎓 ✔︎/✘]. Use button [▶︎] to turn on all other lights to the memorized setting if necessary. Notice that HUE light will not change. Now open HUE2 VD that is controlling that  group of  lights and first  select HUE scene  that was  used before. Activate selected HUE scene by clicking on button [🎨 ▶︎] or if it is dynamic scene then on button [🔁🎨▶︎]. Wait a bit and then click it once more. NOTE - you need to click scene activation button twice so that VD use new scene ID.
    11. When HUE2 VD's is showing that group is on using selected HUE scene then go back to ALC Config VD and use button [💾 ▶︎] to save turn on state.
    12. If for lights off state HUE light is set to turn off then you do not to do any changes, but if you use some HUE scene for lights off state then first use button [◻️] to turn all lights to off state or dimmed state, then go back to HUE2 VD and select HUE scene for dimmed state and again you need to click twice on button [🎨 ▶︎] or [🔁🎨▶︎] to activate it and wait a bit that HUE2 VD show proper state then go back to ALC Config VD and use button [💾 ◻️] to save off/dimmed state.
    13. Repeat above steps 10-12 for all used light scenes for that room. When you are finished with room, put scene in normal operation by clicking once again on learning button [🧑‍🎓 ✔︎/✘] to exit learning mode. Also repeat that process for all other rooms and HUE lights that were before part of HUE bridges migrated after the first one.

Since yesterday when I migrated my two old HUE bridges to new Pro everything works nice and smooth and maybe even a bit faster.

I hope above procedure will help you with migrating your HUE and adjusting UHAS on your HC2 to work nicely with this new HUE bridge.

If you have any further questions you are very welcomed to ask.

Zoran, I have the Philips HUE AIO VD v3.1. It worked great until I upgraded to the Pro version of the bridge from version 2. I did this somewhat unconsciously, convinced it would work, and now half the house has no lights because the bridge isn't recognized by Fibaro. Is there a problem with this? I have a lot of scenes and connections so I wouldn't want to change it, and I did it a few years ago and I don't remember much.
