Reducing electric lock buzz noise after pulse on relay output

Question

Posted

Hello,
I am using Yubii Home with a Z-Wave relay output controlling an electric strike lock for a room door.

When the door is opened from the app/keypad, the lock makes a loud buzzing / mechanical noise during the opening pulse.

I found these parameters:

  • Parameter 156 = Output 1 auto off
  • Parameter 157 = Output 2 auto off

Currently set to 0s.

Would setting auto off to 0.5s or 1s be the best solution?

Also, is there any recommended way to make the electric strike quieter (pulse duration / monostable mode / hardware suggestion)?

Thank you.

Those locks (electromagnetic ones) works in that way, the sound is made by a coil which is a part of electromagnet.
Other type of electromagnetic lock (vendor) may sound differently or less noisy.

Thank you, but my question is slightly different.

I understand that electric strikes make noise because of the coil/electromagnet.

My real issue is not the noise itself, but the unlock pulse duration.

The access control system keeps the strike energized for several seconds, while in my case the door can already be opened after a very short pulse.

So I am asking if it is possible to reduce the activation time to about 0.5–1 second instead of several seconds.

    Thanks

That is a question to the producer of the keypad, if this is something configurable.
