Weather in the Home Center 2 - Check your city script

Question

Posted

Dear Members,

Often, there are doubts about the weather data displayed in the Home Center 2. Service which is used to display the Fibaro weather data is the google weather.

Please login or register to see this image.

The system collects the weather data only on the basis of place names given in CONFIGURATION -> LOCATION.

Users who have questioned whether for their city google provides weather data can now check the webpage:

The script for the available weather data returns the following result:

weather-ok.jpg

However, the data are not available:

Thanks for the link. However, I live in "Fleet" and there are four Fleet's in the UK. I could specify London, but there are many in the world. I'm sure there's not that many Poznan's in the world (there's one). How does one specify an explicit location, eg post code, county, country, state, etc ? I've tried various formats but nothing working. Can you only specify a city that is globally unique ?

Thanks,

It will be very interesting to have access to the forecasted weather too (tomorrow, day after tomorrow, etc).

Do you think this is manageable?

Thanks,

YG

There should definitely be another option to add like a zip/postal code and country.

For example in Belgium you have Aalst, but you have Aalst in The Netherlands as well, how does the system know which one to take?

Does this still get data from Google weather? As I'm pretty sure Google have now turned off the weather data service?

If i press weather in the google search engine , i've get the weather in my city, why do you think this service was stopped?

There were reports that Google had shut down the weather API service.

I have had the same weather for days now and the weathertest script does not seem to work. Please provide us with some more info. Even the images in your post are broken Krystian.

With respect to the Google weather API, this article appeared yesterday:

suggesting that the API no longer functions. However, I would caveat this with the fact that Fibaro may be sourcing their data elsewhere. I also note that Krystian's example of "Poznan" no longer works.

This article is true. I am afraid that google disconected us from the API. Because of that we will use YAHOO weather in 1.037. I hope we will publish within few days.

With 1.37 installed all the weather based scenarios i've made months ago finally work with Yahoo weather. I was pretty surprised when yesterday my sunshaders automatically pulled in because of the scene i made . It was the first time! I think Yahoo weather is even better as Google weather

    Hello,

I am in Perth, Australia and the weather shown in HC2 is not correct.

Is it just the City field which is used for determining weather? and for format? i.e. Australia/Perth or weather code, etc.

I have tried weathertest.fibaro.com, but all results are "No Data"

As listed in first post, this was for Google Weather, does it provide results for Yahoo?

    Thanks.

I have it working for Hobart, Australia:

    Time Zone: Australia/Hobart

    Latitude: -42.9

    Longitude: 147.3

    City: Hobart, Tas

The weather always seems to be correct.

I was assuming it is actually the Lat/Long that made it work, but to test I changed it to Lat -12.9 and the temp stayed the same (11C)

Then I changed the City to "Darwin, NT" and it reported 30C

Back to "Hobart, Tas" and it changed back to 11C

    "Sydney, NSW" gives me 19C

All are consistent with the current BoM weather (Australian Bureau of Meteorology)

So it is definitely the City script that makes it work.

Not sure what the format would be outside of Australia, but I assume it would be similar.

    Cheers,

    Ferris
