Does anyone else have a problem when sometimes clicking dimmer switch does not turn on the dimmer nor yet start dimming?

There is a small time range in what key press does not turn on dimmer or dimm the light...

Any ideas to resolve this?

Thanks

When you press tree times the switch, will this turn on or off your lights? This is the problem I have with my dimmers!

Kuuno,

What is the dimmer version? What is the lenght of the wire connecting wall switch with the dimmer module?

I know about the three times click thing and this is not the case.

The distance is 3 to 6 m depending on the location. All dimmers have neutral wire. I was also told about the 0,7 second parameter but i can easily get a push where no turn on or dimming happens. Maybe this is at exactly that time?

Dimmer versions should mostly be 1.9 w this project

I have a few dimmers... They all have the same problem now and then but one is more problematic than the others. Often, but not always, you click the switch (pushbutton type, not toggle) and nothing happens. After a moment, you click a second time. Nothing happens. The third time, the dimmer switches on. The device is not part of a scene or an association. I cannot reproduce the problem. I am under the impression that it only happens after a certain "off" time, but I'm not sure. Dimmer is v2.2. The dimmer is rarely dimmed up or down, it's mostly used as a switch... The wires are short (15 cm) and it's a 3-wire installation. Anything I can check?

I also have the "three times click" issue with my four dimmers all using three wire installation. Is this an issue that is well known? What can I do to fix it? My dimmers are all v2.2 EU.

Kuuno, can you shed some light on this issue? Is it documented somewhere?

    Herke,

I had the same problem with one of my dimmers. I removed it from the system and included it again. This solved my problem.

Using a 3-wire system with module build behind the wallswitch.

I've also tried adding/re-adding and also removed the association from the second button and re-adding it. Problem still persist this morning on at least 2 out of 4 dimmers. This has to be a software issue and seems to be a fairly common one at that.

Is anyone with this issue using a 2-wire setup? Maybe it's an issue with 3-wire setups? What are you guys using?

    Kuuno,

I have this problem now and then with all my dimmers except one that always works. This unit is v1.9, connected with 3 wires, controls a load of approx 300 W and has four pushbuttons in parallell with a total wire length of 30 m. S2 is used to activate scenes in HC2.

The units that sometimes require 3 clicks are a mix of v1.9 and v2.2. With v1.9 it was 100% reproducable to enter 3-click mode when i had associated devices on S2. After each click on S2 three clicks were needed to control the lamp on S1. With v 2.1 it is more random.

Ok, then I'm right back where I started. 3 out of 4 dimmers with the same problem. This has to be fixed. I can't imagine a scenario where this is not software related.

All button pressed are properly registered by HC2, even if the three times click issue presents itself.

    Fibaro staff, please advise.

My reseller suggested to set parameter 10 to 0 (i.e. no soft change between dimmer states) and it seems to "fix" the problem. Doesn't look as nice but at least I don't have to click three times.

Another option might be to remove the associations of the second button as some users has reported this to solve the problem. However, this kinda cripples the device. A workaround might be indirect association using the second button to activate a scene. This morning I setup this scenario on one of my dimmers to test it out. Hopefully this way I can keep parameter 10 to a nice soft dimming, get rid of the three clicks error and still use the second button to control secondary lights and/or scenes in the room. I'll report back when this has been tested out for some time.

@StarkJohan: thank you for filing this as a bug. It seems it has been assigned to Adam Socha, I consider that to be "hopeful". See

I've removed the S2 association on two of my dimmers. I now use scene activation, just like you. It is a little bit slower but on the plus side: I can now turn on a light connected to O2 of a 1.5 kW switch.

It takes a few days to evaluate this solution...

A few days later and it works fine except for the delay and the fact that now the HC2 has to be involved but I guess that's not a giant issue. I'm using two of my currently four dimmers as scene controllers anyway so I can live with this setup for now.

    Here's my dimmer scene:

I agree with StarkJohan... Lua scene works for binary switches... But I used S2 on one of my dimmers to control another dimmer... I didn't try to completely emulate that behaviour in lua. In fact, I think it isn't possible to have 100% the same experience. But I have found a workable alternative. So I post the code and I hope some people get inspiration to do a better job

I have the same problem with fibaro dimmer version 2/2. Exactly as it is described in bug tracker. My connection has no neutral, the load is a dimmable 11W LED lamp with fibaro bypass, bystable switch, S2 is associated to fibaro plug.

Sometimes (very rear actually) the lamp on S1 does not switch on when I click on S1-pad. At this time I guess HC2 believes that lamp is on, but it's not in reallity. Two additional clicks on S1 (and thus it is 3 clicks in total: on>off>on) solves the issue.

I thought - maybe the problem is in LED lamp and even bought another more expensive one today. I will test the new morLED lamp. But it is probably not related.

Guys, who experience this problem, which type of load do you have in your dimmer?

(...) I thought - maybe the problem is in LED lamp (...) Guys, who experience this problem, which type of load do you have in your dimmer?

I have 7 dimmers. Six have 230 V halogen loads ranging from 40 up to 300 Watt. I have one dimmer with 3x20 Watt (dimmable) Compact Fluorescent Lamp. I don't have (and never will have) dimmable 230 V LEDs. If I want dimmable LED, I use 12 V or 24 V LED strip with RGBW controller. None of the dimmers use a bypass, it 's not needed. All of them use L+N aka "3 wire". One dimmer was on "2 wire" for twee weeks but that didn't matter.

In short... I don't think the load makes a difference.

I have dimmable 220v LEDs and 2-wire configuration everywhere. So there is no chance to test 3-wire connection. Regarding the load - I tried halogen on 1 dimmer for several days, but the problem did not appear. This is probably just a coincidence. As somebody wrote before - it can take time before the problem appears.

So, thanks petergebruers, you are most likely right regarding

I have the same problem, I have 2 buttons connected to a dimmer and everything works flawless as long as I don't associate a device to group 2. If I do, the buttons will work for a while but if the buttons aren't used for some time (5 minutes or so or longer) pressing the button won't turn the lights on or off anymore.

After pressing it several times the light turns on or off again and after this it will start working as expected...

Could be a software problem, maybe the next update will fix this problem? Fibaro?

I haven't tested this very much but try keeping the associations on S2 and also activate parameter 41 (scene activation). I didn't try this until very recently but after a few days I'm yet to experience the problem. Worth trying at least, I will report back after testing a while longer.
