Smart Energy Meter Readout

Question

Posted

Hi,

I am planning to have a smart energy meter installed, but I first want to find a solution to read out the P1 port.

I have found a z-wave internet gateway from

Please login or register to see this link.

and I was wondering if you can use this gateway as a secondary controller for the HC2. You can connect the BeNext gateway directly to the P1 port of your energy meter to read out the data. Is there anyone who has any experience with this gateway?

Thanks

I got an answer back from BeNext (sorry it's in dutch):

Het is niet mogelijk de P1/slimme meter data door te sturen via z-wave naar een andere controller.

Maar het is wel mogelijk de gateway te koppelen aan de fibaro homecentre waardoor je met beide controllers een groter z-wave systeem kan maken.

Het inleren staat ook uitgelegd in de handleiding te vinden op

    van de BeNext gateway.

Anyway, you can't read out the data with the HC2 from the BeNext internet gateway.

    @Smartronix

I will have a look at pugwise. Thanks.

I had a look at Plugwise, but it is not what I am looking for. Plugwise is almost the same as BeNext, with the difference that BeNext is z-wave and Pluwise is Zigbee.

The BeNext controller (Internet gateway) can also control z-wave modules, including all fibaro modules. It also has an app that shows the energy consumption of your house. I still might buy the BeNext controller, just to play around with it. It's a lot cheaper than the Plugwise controler. You can find it here:

or buy it directly from BeNext.

What I am looking for is a system that reads out the P1 port of the smart energy meter and displays it in the fibaro app. It should be something for fibaro to pick up, because I think that the whole of the Netherlands is looking for something like this.

Btw: I have no affiliation with BeNext

It is a possibility that I thought about, but I do not like multiple systems and I am also slowly replacing all Homewizard (kaku/elro) stuff with z-wave, so eventually I only have z-wave.

I also got a tip from BeNext. It seems that north-Q (Danish) is about to bring out a z-wave P1 reader for the dutch market. I'll keep an eye on that.

Just found the device on north-Q's website, but it is a wifi reader. I wrote them an email to ask if it will be available as z-wave and if it will be compatible with HC2. I'll let you know the answer.

Understand the multiple systems. I need Homewizard for Somfy RTS integration from HC2 and therefor it was a cheap solution to also buy the Energylink.

I have used plugwise (slow) and I have to say the graphs of homewizard are fast and very good. Don't think you will get that much of views/graphs and speed in HC2.

HC2 and ipad energy views are not usable slow.

The answer from Nort-Q, as promised:

Thank you very much for your question

At this moment our Power Reader do not read P1 Dutch meters but our next generation will be able to read them.

Our Power Reader is Z-wave. It is compatible to all Z-wave controllers as it is certified.

So we have to wait a little longer

I seriously do not understand what manufacturers are waiting for, i mean we are in 2014 and still there is no decent solution for this. Sad...

Also for Smartronix, you srsly believe this is the future as the device is right now? We bought a HC2 about 4 months ago with some plugs, sensors and stuff. Problem is still that about 90% of our devices like Sony TV's, receivers, apple stuff, Somfy and a simple carport just dont work with it. So we basically use the fibaro right now only for simple light switching as all the other things are either to complicated or just not possible.

In version 4.0 there will be a function to operate various smart tv products, sonos and other audio products, as for Somfy, this is a different protocol (non Z-Wave) the Somfy RTS bridge is only available for the US frequency, recently Somfy EU told me that they are working on a Z-Wave solution (bridge) when using LUA in combination with virtual devices you can almost operate any product that can be operated over the Internet.

Hc2 can operate 16 somfy rts channels via a homewizard box. So no need for expensive somfy bridge. Add the homewizard energly link and you have energy measurement in hc2

Not everybody wants to buy another box just for that

Plus with homewizard you then create another wireless network next to what HC2 already has and it also requires another energylink box purely for measuring power.

How about the device from Enelogic? Maybe they have an API to read the data?

I now have the smart meter installed now. Now it is time to get a reader. I have already seen a lot of suggestions, thanks for that, but I am actually looking for a device that does not use a foreign server or cloud. I like to keep my data in house. SO any more suggestions, or do I have to wait for a smart supplier.

I have a Raspberry PI, cable from usb to the smart meter, small php script on PI that reads meter and delivers json with readings. On HC2 a virtual device with a few lines of code and I have the readings.

If anyone is interested, i can post the procedures to get it working.

I have a RPI that is doing nothing at this moment so it would be great if you could share how you managed to do this.

Hierbij de complete handleiding. Ik heb mijn virtual device erbij gedaan voor als je dat gemakkelijker vindt.

I own that one, works perfect!

And the best thing is that they have an open API and encourage 3rd party developers to use their data:
