Hi Fibaro

Do Fibaro have any plans to join Apples Homekit ?

This is a must.

Lili will hopefully soon be replaced by Siri!

Abit worried that Fibaro wasn't listed as partner...

I would prefer better Android integration than a rotten Apple. Sorry guys

it's only a protocol, not products. So it's more something like z-wave (probably without the mesh structure) or like airplay. It just describes how it is used.

the product's still have to be maid by other manufacterers. I am not so certain that there will change much on a short notice.

Yeah.

There is not much to offer for Fibaro, at the moment. If something comes, I'm sure they will react on that.

Nothing to gain here so far.

I really don't understand why people are so quick to put +1's inhere. You should really want to read up on what homekit really is/will be. Apple aims for a proprietary communication protocol, probably used by accessories that will have to be certified by apple, which will most likely only work with an ios device unless Google and Microsoft will implement their protocol, which seems highly unlikely. So basically they will be turning the "internet of things" into "the internet of expensive apple things".

HomeKit uses a public api meaning it should be fairly easy to write something which will allow Fibaro to control the homekit devices. It basically describes a common way to interface with products, so anyone can write an App to control lighting, and then no matter the manufacturer, the app can control all lights. So it should just make life easier for all, not harder... And I'm guessing this will give home automation a huge boost with a lot of the big companies joining the wagon and providing nice gadgets. So it is a definite positive for me... But I'm not expecting fibaro to jump on the band wagon any time soon as this protocol will create direct competitors to fibaro!

I'm sorry but did you read the HomeKit specs? Fibaro can easily implement the HomeKit specs while staying as it is. HomeKit is not aiming to replace Z-wave or other communication protocols: it's made to group different kind of devices (each one using their own protocol) to have them managed by apps made by developers. That means that there will be more competition on home automation apps, so better quality and more choice for users.

That mean we will be able to have a HomeKit app that will manage Fibaro devices (Fibaro HC2 will act as a "bridge" in the HomeKit specs) but also other devices without having to wait for support from Fibaro.

It's a win-win for apple/fibaro users and that doesn't mean Fibaro has to drop anything: it will still use Z-wave as device communication protocol and expose Z-wave devices and services to HomeKit compatible apps via the HK SDK. Also that doesn't exclude supporting other Android protocol to do the same on Android platform. It's just an add-on for Apple users.

So please, before taking parts (Apple/Android/Non-Apple/Etc.) and before commenting read the docs and understand technologies.

I think the HK support will give a boost to the home automation apps on iOS and that could help selling more Fibaro HC2 and Fibaro Z-wave products (after all Fibaro is an hardware developer and not a software one).

Thanks,

Demetrio

Fibaro should support this no question. However I doubt they are able to. Looking at the recent updates for both HC2 and iOS I have no confidence in the software department of Fibaro.

Maybe we can write our own interfaces for Homekit.

Quite straight forward to do... You just need to know Objective C, Cocoa and have a Apple developer license. So now, just get to it then!

In my humble opinion - its a MUST!!! Huge market! Otherwise you are going down in the long run...
