Does anyone know what's the best way to replace the battery in a door/window sensor?

I've read several way's to replace those things, but I'm searching for the right one

I've replaced a LS14250 battery for a new one (brand = Saft), but the battery level is still low. I've ordered three new ones, just to try things out.

You need to make sure the door is open when you replace the batteries

If you mean any normal window/door sensor: just open it, replace the battery, close it. Done!

If you mean the Fibaro window/door sensor... make some room in your schedule because this will take some time.

Open it, replace the battery, close it. Repeat five times. Nothing? Try with window open and closed a few times. Still nothing. Exclude/include the device a few times. Half of the includes will fail and the device will show up as a motion sensor, power switch or just a generic brown box. Unable to delete it from HC2? Reboot a few times. Keep excluding/including until it shows up as a window sensor. Replace the battery a few times again. Exclude/include a few times. Unmount/mount the device. Try replacing the battery. Reboot HC2 a few times.  Excude/include, replace battery a few times. About 3 days later, if you're lucky, you're good too go.  But oh, even though the batteries are brand new, HC2 will of course report a completely random battery level. Sometimes, after a few weeks, the battery level will be shown correctly. But about then it has of course marked all your window sensors as dead and you will not be able to awake them.

This is when you have to start from the beginning.

Good luck!

I do have the Fibaro sensor and I'm considering to buy another one but this time the hidden Z-Wave Plus door sensor from Aeon Labs:

I think somewhere on here I heard someone having issues with those with current firmware

The Aeon is working fine with the latest firmware.

Only thing to remember is replace battery with door opened. If status is not updated, wake it up manually.

Today, I replaced the battery with an open door, then I did a manually wake up and it works fine!

i have both the hidden aeotec and the fibaro door /window sensor and I cannot get either to work.

the aeotec adds, but then hc2 says it is not configured correctly, so i soft reconfigure, then the device turns into a pic of a fibaro cardboard box with no options.

the fibaro door/window sensor will not add regardless of what i do.

    any ideas?

Here's an idea. If the Fibaro sensor is mounted with the double sided tape, firmly press the battery so as to make certain that the switch in the back is pressed when you triple click the inside button. If that doesn't help, follow the reset procedure in the manual & try again...

thanks. i've tried that and i've tried the reset. nothing is working. I think it's a faulty module. bought it more than a year ago. another fibaro device in the bin!!!

is the aeotec working for others in v4.042? it adds, then it says it is not configured, so i reconfigure then i get the box image and the device is no longer visible in the interface. any ideas there?

edit: i've added it now for the 3rd time. I forgot to mention that it shows as having a flat battery every time I add it despite having changed for two brand new batteries which I have tested and have the correct voltage.

edit2: another interesting point is that it looks like it is working at the device in that when i move it away from next to the magnet the red led lights up. it's just the hc2 side of things that is not working.

I have the old and the new version of the Aeotec working in V4.042. I had to press the tiny button inside a lot of times during the inclusion and had to wait a while till the green line showed up. But after that they are working. If the battery "seems"  dead, you have to wake them up again (tiny button a few times) and after refreshing the page it should be ok.

The odd thing I have with the new version is that for 2 times it said that the battery really was flat (receiving emails), the first time i replaced the battery and was ok again, second time I did nothing and after 3 day it was OK again, with battery completly full... so that fooled me the first time

I don't own the previous model, DSB54, but I do own a ZW089 aka "GEN5". I've added it without issues (no missing template, battery status OK). I've also checked bugzilla for 'recessed' but it only shows 2 older bugs for the GEN5 version. Sorry I can't be of any help

/emoticons/default_icon_smile.gif" alt=":-)" /> Except maybe about the difficulties of adding the device. After two years I'm still amazed at how different Z-Wave networks and HC2 implementations can be. I did one single click on the tiny button! But Remko's remark doesn't surprise me. I have 7 Aeon MultiSensors and some time ago, each firmware version it was different... single click or click-like hell.

BTW according to the Engineering Specifications, the Wake-up procedure is: "Press and hold the Z‐wave Button for 6 seconds". I used that to change associations and it works.

When trying to add the Fibaro module don't just triple click. Keep clicking the button until it adds. I have found it takes about 6 clicks before it will add to the network

    all,

    thanks for the suggestions.

the issue I am having with the aeotec is not adding it. it adds just fine. i can see that the device is showing as v1.5. it is just that after adding the device (ie within a few minutes) the hc2 then pops up with the yellow triangle to the left hand side of centre of the top bar saying that the device is not configured. if i do a soft or hard reconfigure the device disappears altogether other than the fibaro controller device (which you should all know about in v4 - tbh i'm am still unsure what purpose it has to the end user) which is represented by the brown fibaro box and which for practical purposes (in my opinion) is a useless device - the actual door sensor device is gone.

i have left it unconfigured now (after the 3rd or 4th attempt of adding it, i'm not counting anymore) ie yellow triangle flashing. i will see if the battery situation resolves itself in a day or so in which time hopefully fibaro support would have come back with a solution.

ps: with the fibaro module i have tried every type of clicking known to man (from slow to fast to down right aggressive/furious machine gun clicking) .. it doesn't matter. unfortunately it simply doesn't work.

My "Aeon Labs Recessed Door Sensor" says Version 1.12. Hmm. I'll leave the sensor on my desk to see what happens. From

ID> I get "productInfo": "0,134,0,2,0,89,1,12", what is your productInfo? It can be used to look up the exact device type. See if we are talking about the same sensor... FWIW: 0,134 = Aeon 0 = EU, 2 = probably some sort of revision, 0, 89 = Recessed Door Sensor, 1 = FW major, 12 = FW minor. So my FW is more recent than yours.

Mine also says version 1.12... Do you see the green line when you include the device, and does the pop-up disappear?

    Posted

I checked the API and mine is definitely z-wave version 1.5.

The device inclusion works just fine.

It can take a minute or two to complete, and yes I actually see two green lines confirming completion.
