Swipe is very good. Give it a go.

I was lucky to get my hands on one of these for testing.

One very cool device. Get your orders in early.

Only caution I have is make sure you use it with a good USB.

Then let you imagination rule. I am going to put one behind a surface in my new kitchen so I can control everything even with dirty hands. Bathrooms will be my next use. No danger with electricity and wet hands.

Personally I do not see any use of it in my house (or any other where I installed HC's in).. That is,.. For now...

    let your imagination rule

but if you have no imagination your conclusion is good.

1 pre-orderd one, and i am curious how fast it reacts

is that immediately or after a couple of seconds

So.. I need to walk to the place the "swipe" is mounted/placed.. On my way overt there I pass all the needed switches to do whatever I want I my house. (front door)

I also have my mobile phone with "tasker", and am able to control everything in my house by just shaking the phone and telling it what to do...

Besides this, all things that need to be done are automated (ie: when LUX get's to low lights will go on).

When I'm going to bed my TV will know, turn off everything needed, close the shades, turn on the alarm and put the front door in night lock.

Vice versa when I get up..

No.. For me swipe is really not needed.

Please do not get me wrong. It does look nice (WOW factor), and am sure that lot's of people will like it, and have good use for it..

I've pre ordered one and can't wait to get my hands on it. I'll be using to set home and away modes as we leave or enter the front door. Currently it's a tablet button but sets unsets the alarm turns on off light, music, etc as needed and triggers some other occupancy / non occupancy event.

no but you can put them behind a surface so they don't get wet.

Possibly but I thought that before I got one to test.

I have most things automated but there are always times you want to override or switch things on that are not governed by time, light or predictable event. Sticky fingerprints and wet hands are not good for phones and ipads.

If you have music on voice activation is not a lot of good.

You probably don't know that you can mount one behind sheet material so that it is hidden from view but available even if your hands are covered in muck.

Different and it has different uses to voice and pad interfaces. Certainly you could use where your ipad would be damaged because you can put it inside something and it still works.,

Like robmac I've got a pre-production unit for testing. It is fun indeed and after a week, my family members really like the device! WAF = 100%.

I'd like to point out a few things I've noticed.

    - I agree with robmac that the device really shines when USB operated. Running on batteries, it has 2 modes. One mode will make it work in the same way as USB powered, but that will drain 4 AA's really fast. It works a little different in the other battery mode, giving you a lot longer battery life. But I'd recommend to start with USB power, it's easier to setup and learn the gestures. Although the unit has dual power, it is not a USB repeater. So it's not like a MultiSensor that can actively route messages (if you include the sensor on USB power).

    - I agree with robmac that you could put this device in an enclosure, outdoors. But the unit was not designed for outdoor usage. It's not only a matter of moisture, it's also temperature. Battery consumptions at low or high temperatures is unknown, I haven't tested it. So it might work well, but you are using it outside its specification.

Rob, which is the maximum range this device detects gestures? Few inches?

    Posted

I think my device is similar to robmac's. It's a few inches, like you say. If you put some meterial in front of it, sensitivity is reduced. Depends on material type and thickness.

OK. And how many gestures are available? Only four? I remember that the first marketing messages talked also about circular gestures.

    Posted

Four directions plus circular clockwise and anti-clockwise. Plus a combination of them, optionally. I've done a quick test with complex gestures, but dicided to go back to the basics, until everyone at home gets used to the "swipe dingus".

Peter and Robert, I was skeptical but that you both agree may just be the push I needed....

and how was the delay (if any) ?
