Fibaro HC2 and Aeon Labs Home Energy Meter Multi Phase Totals

Question

Posted

Hi, I have a 3 clamp HEM and it shows me the TOTAL and Clamp 1-3. I have the clamps setup as follows:

Clamp 1 House (Phase 1)

Clamp 2 Garage (Phase 2)

Clamp 3 Hotwater Supply (Phase 2 but not included on clamp 2)

I would like to select which Clamp a device is on in the house so the power is deducted from the correct clamp total.

I would then like to have a total power use of the combined clamps with break downs to what used the power and how much is used that is not accounted for.

It doesn't seem like rocket science so hopefully some one has worked a way around this or does Fibaro need to add a new field to each device which assigns it a clamp.

End result how can I report the power used on each clamp without duplication of the usage..

I don't think that this device is meant to be used that way. It suppose to measure total consumption of house so if you have 1 phase you must use meter with only one clamp, for 2 phase system with 2 clamps and for 3 phase 3 clamps. As it is instructed in manual:

  1. Clip one clamp of the meter around the incoming electricity cable that connects to the main circuit breaker.

And that goes for each phase, but on INCOMING cable! If you want to measure consumption of some specific space or device in your house I believe that you have to do that with another device.

Where is your 3rd phase? Why not measure it instead of phase 2 twice? And add a power switch with energy measurement to the hot water if you want it as well.

I would listen to Sankotronic and only measure the incoming wires. How Fibaro sums the power I can not answer.

I did not think 2-phase existed but I had to double check. It is highly unlikely anyone here has it. Not impossible as it obviously still exists a few places in the world. Not been commonly used the last 100 years

I think you will find as this item is from the US they will mean 2 phase as Live and Neutral, connect clamp 1 around the Live (Brown or Red) between your meter and consumer unit and clamp 2 around the Neutral (Black or Blue) between your meter and consumer unit, if you have the MK2 that has to be hard wired you will have to connect it to an 3amp MCB or Fuse Spur to power it. MK1 is battery powered. But you may find you only need clamp 1 for single phase.

Hope this helps
