Question

Well Y! weather is not only one suffering from non-workalaithus.

it has been reported since 4.082 that YR dose not appear to be FULLY operational some people have wrong wind speed, some have wrong tempiture and now i have completly sunny weather inspite of it being quite cloudy.

as such i am posting this thread to find out few things:

1) Is it related to time-zone? (it seemed to me like it was untill well today)

2) In my case it looks like displayed weather is few minutes before what happens in reality, can it be time-offset for certain time or is it presistent?

3) is this problem with settings on HC or on side of YR

anny and all input here will be hopefully helpfull to Fibaro in finding way to make it work.

I am not sure if 'The Weather Channel' offers open-source API for 3rd parties to use or not. So far I do find 'The Weather Channel' (also used by Apple on iOS devices now, previously Yahoo Weather!) to be rather accurate with its weather information and even has very granular-level locations' weather info, not just overall/general city/state's weather.

you mean "open weather Map" ? that is one people keep talking about for their workarounds.

annyways i belive you did appear on few recent BETA forums i am present on  so what is your experience with YR weather?

    Hmmm... I have been spotted?

Thought I have toned down a lot from all the various beta testings. Maybe that's what it means to be leaving behind footprints wherever one has been before.

Back to YR weather. Not much experience and in fact, first time I heard about it from this Home Center thing and forum. If what shows up on HC2 is anything to go by, it is often not accurate in the sense that it differs from what shows on my iPhone/iPad.

'The Weather Channel' I am talking about is this one ->

So is there a accepted "hack" to get the weather as shown in the web app and the iPad app to actually show something close to reality?

    There is a

that has been avalible for a while but that too on ocasion suffers some shortcomings (there have been reports of it stalling, stoping etc.) (VD is within the very next post translation is

Now please people come lets have those stats, all of my BETA version HW (well atm 2x HC2 on 4.083) are running YR weather and it kinda works if i think back 15ish minutes to that state .)

these workarounds, they are maybe not good for HC2. There is cron job running in background, writing values into the DB, and these workarounds overwrites values (which is unecessary overhead), and of course nobody (except Fibaro) know exactly if one can overwrite the data in this way (not that there is wrong format or collision, whatever. Unfortunately nobody was able to answer that question. Definitely it is better to make changes to the cron job instead, which of course didn't work for end-users with no root access to HCx.

On the other hand, all these weather services are not fast enough, so one have to use local weather station or paid systems. Finally, don't forget to have proper city, when using "zip city" combination, one can check if yahoo is providing proper position, on which YR weather is providing the data (yes, yahoo is still partially used for v4.082 weather implementation, haven't checked v4.083 yet)

we have 5 units here and they always fall out of sync regardless of the same ntp servers, same long/lat settings etc...

such a simple function and they cannot get it working... not moaning

it normally requires the controller to be restarted to fall in sync again... seems to be a lot of GUI related bugs in 4.xx

the only issues i have, if they really related to YR and not to other things, are UI updates on android tablet (where one have to kill the app from time to time to get updates weather)

Mine YR weather is quite away from reality. It shows rain at the time of clear skyand almost always is 4-5 C less than reality. Yahoo was quite a accurate one. I think, fibaro should be able to provide several weather providers to be able to choose from.

i agree they should make it part of plugins section and just let people decide for themselves whch weather service they want to use.

I agree on the inaccuracy of YR.no. When reading their site and trying to understand the Norwegian, it seems like they only have current observations from Norwegian stations but international forecasts. Could it be that Fibaro are using the current forecast from YR.no instead of the current/latest observation?

The difference was noticeable today when it was raining in real life and on weather.com, but the sun was shining on YR.no.

Anyone from Fibaro who would like to comment their current implementation and future plans for weather data?
