Light Ghosts?

Question

Hi all,

Unsure whether this one should be under HC2 or the modules so please move accordingly if needed.

This is one of a few threads going up today regarding the HC2 - like a lot of people here, I've invested a lot into the Fibaro brand with around 10-12 dimmer 2/relay modules, smoke, flood, handful of The Button, and then a whole load of other zwave bits for plugs and what not and on the whole, things are running very nicely but there are issues and issues that are now getting on my nerves.

Issue 1 is this thread:

Every so often, I find lights are on without requesting them to be on.

Checking the event panel for an incident this morning when I found the living room light on, I can see it was a fibaro controlled switch on rather than a physical switch.

The light turned on at 06:13:10 in a room that not only is rarely used but at 6 in the morning and 2 people in the house, there was no one awake to do it...so I switched it off.

This is not the first time this has happened however it has it's not happening as often so this is somewhat good news.  There is no motion sensor linked to the above light and is a standalone dimmer 2 module with no scenes attached to it.

Other lights in other rooms have had similar issues but as mentioned, this has gone down randomly in the number of times it happens.

So what do you think?

Thanks :)

Hi, @aj84,

I have 1 of 10 motion sensors that is breaching itself and turning on lights or activating alarm if armed. Nothing I did helped to change its behavior, exclusion and inclusion, reseting, moving to another place. So I ordered new one.

I have also 3 of 23 door/window sensors that behave strangely and dies regularly without first sending any warnings that battery is almost empty. I also try everything that user can do but nothing helped. So I will probably order new ones soon. One of this sensors is placed in my swimming pool machinery room and in this winter days I found it wet from moisture but it never give up sending temperature and battery is still quite good. This three that gives me headache are in place with no extensive moisture and normal room temperature but still...

I have 1 of 6 roller shutter modules that requires recalibration every time when there is power failure. It just forgets everything and power consumption too. Also tried to solve problem with exclusion/inclusion and resetting but still all the same. New arrived not long ago and is waiting to be installed instead of this faulty one.

I have 1 of 16 smart plugs that has arrived from Vesternet shop faulty! When I plug it to socket first time it flashed LED ring and then turned off. I was still able to include it to the HC but no switching was possible either with button or with HC. Unfortunately I had to leave my home next day for work and returned back after five weeks so I couldn't return it back for replacement due to overdue.

And that is all that troubles my system. Everything else is working just nice.

So it seems to me that QC (quality control) is not something that is on price for Fibaro products. They maybe check for quality 1 of 100. It is cheaper and products can be cheaper but then it can easily happen that you get faulty device that was not checked before leaving factory. Of course this is only my thoughts and can be far from the truth.

    Very interesting indeed.

I suppose this for me could be a deal killer going forwards.  Z-wave is still far too small and I have yet to find a shop that sells the devices.  We have a number of shops that sell the Samsung and belkin but Fibaro or anything z-wave is not possible so I am then limited to the likes of online stores, amazon, ebay - some of who are not easy to deal with if a device goes faulty in 2-3-6-8 months and so suddenly this could become very expensive.

In your case, if you are replacing 4 devices on what I am going to assume are relatively young in terms of use/age, you could end up replacing the entire system over a course of a year and very easily re-spend all the money you have already ploughed in.

Did you speak to Vesternet about your plug?  I have to say they have been very good with me with what I have bought from them (I got the initial HCL, a few modules and a honeywell evo home which I then returned).  But all the other modules and my HC2 are not from them and they still help out where they can.

So based on your thread, it is entirely possibly my modules are going faulty...
