Cannot upgrade HCL

Question

Posted

Hi,

I'm having issues upgrading  my HCL. I've upgraded before to 4.080 but now I cannot upgrade anymore. The system starts the upgrade, after a short while the status LEDs start 'walking' and keep doing that. I've tried multiple times now, even letting the HCL 'upgrade' overnight.

After the normal way failed I thought I'd try to upgrade using the recovery mode, but that isn't working either. The LEDs keep 'walking' when trying to boot in recovery mode. Network doesn't seem to be coming up. When connected to the router, no DHCP request is done. Trying to connect using a direct connection with IP 192.168.81.1 also doesn't work.

What are other option I have to upgrade the system? When the system reboots, it reboots normally and can be used. But upgrading doesn't work and the recovery console doesn't work either.

Thanks, Rogier

Hi, do you need to upgrade it?

if no, don't touch it

Quite a strange response to my question there. I want to upgrade for new functionality and new support the new firmware offers.

Besides, because the upgrade doesn't work I found out the recovery mode doesn't work either. So while the upgrade failing isn't too vital in this case, the recover mode that isn't working is though.

    Hope someone can help.

Not really a strange one if you don't know all firmware history, past and present.

Suggestion is to read the HCL fw discussions area in this forum first.

As you can see I still have 4.090 and regardless issues I have I do not change it.

I have the same problem. I think, it is important to have access to recovery mode. So what should I do?

I have the same issue guys. Unit just gets stuck and wont enter recovery mode. It also wont upgrade beyond 4.082. Apart from that it seems to work OK. Fibaro tech support tried to disgnose on line but the system just froze up as it does with me. They have suggested returning the unit but their RMA process is somewhat ambiguous (£35 just to DHL the unit to them). I agree with both you guys in that the ability to access recovery mode is important...I'm considering just using it as is and scouting for something more reliable. The ability to enter recovery mode should be bullet prrof and I'm sure if they wanted they could issue some firmware to brute force it...if they wanted.

I also have the same problem. It started about a month ago after an update. I try to recover the system but the recovery mode (after many test) made 6-8 ours to let me connect via browser! I tried to repair also, the same time needed to get connected.

Anyway, I manage to fix my HCL (I can say how exactly) but yesterday I try to restart my HCL and still cannot connect. My unit is in 4.110 after recovery and repair, so I 'll downgrade it to a stable version. I will try the 4.092 and I hope this one work...

If anyone have to propose any other stable version please post, I have to wait 6-8 hours to get into recovery mode, so you have enough time to post...

Finally, after more than 14 hours and 2-3 manual restarts of the HCL, I manage to get into recovery mode. I downgrade firmware to 4.092, I reboot and after 12 hours and 2 more manual restarts it logged me again into recovery mode, with 4.092 firm...

I hit for repair and going to sleep now, I hope tomorrow to log me in (normal or recovery).
