Show current state Variable

Question

Posted

I created 2 Predefined variables, Home en Away, I use them to start of not start activities when I'm away or at home.

Only I'd like to have a way to show current state of a variable, for example in 'your house' or somewhere in 'rooms'. At the moment the only way I can see the status is go to Panels -> Variables Panel -> Search Variable-> Check status. And when I change the state I have to refresh the page to check the new state.

Is there a way to show this somewhere?

@Orabif . If you change the variable with a scene, you can write the value of the variable to a label in a VD.
If you create a VD, you can add a label in that VD. Give the label a name. Once the VD is created, you can write a string into that label via the scene.
If you're familiar with Lua, you even can write the variable directly to the label I guess.

@wpeeters Thanks! I have tried it and this is a great first step. At least its easier to check a status now. But I still have to open the Virtual Device. Do you know if there is a way to show the status in the overview, for example how wattage or battery status is showed with other devices in the overview? Or even better, how Lux is showed in a Fibaro motion sensor?

You can show one label of the VD in the overview of the VD. You do this by marking the label inside the VD as 'Main'.
I don't know what version you're running. But in version 4.110, you can see wattage (Power metering) on the top of your screen ( Extended information about the power consumption - the list of devices available from the Dashboard bar )

With a single click, you can have an overview of your power consumers (see below screenshot). For you further questions about the motion sensors and battery options, I have no idea. Maybe somebody else.

@wpeeters Fantastic, making it main did the trick! This is exactly what I wanted to have.

    Thanks a lot.

    Hi Orabif!

Could you please share your VD?

I'm looking for the same thing but I don't know how to write the LUA code or the string code for the VD label to show the variable status.

    Thank you!
