Low voltage cable connection

Question

Posted

I want to connect a door strike to Home Center 2. The door strike only requires a low voltage signal and has the cable to the data cabinet already. Which Fibaro device do I buy to connect Home Center 2 to the low voltage cable so I can send the signal to the door strike.

A Fgs 212 or fgs 222 if you have a use for the extra contact. Good practice to slave another relay. The fibaro contacts are very close for mains an low voltage together.

If your slaving a relay you could also use  fgs 213 or 223 .

Or the RBGW module being 12 or 24v dc you could power it from your strike power supply

I would consider FGS-213 with Dumb relay, see scheme below. From my experience, i would not go with RGBW because it is behave like Dimmer in UI and consumers are confused why is there slider.

    Thx Jakub,

I am a consumer and I am confused. Luckily your comments make sense to my electrician brother. ;)

We have used a Double Switch as a test unit to control a door strike. The door strike works well from the wall switch. However the HC2 cannot detect the Double Switch. The switch is 18m from HC2 through several walls. Is 18m too far and when we add more devices in between could we expect the HC2 to detect the device?

Usally is best to install outwardly so yes. Zwave doesnt like concrete with steel reinforcing

Yes, I believe that you do not have a signal there. To minimise number of extra devices i would suggest to get better antenna to cover more space with direct connection. With that you will minimise number of routed devices. Example of antenna is one in the link below.

Also i would suggest NWI inclusion, so you don't need travel too much around your house with HC2.

Hi @Jamie mccrostie, I have only 5dbi in a office and it gave me additional 5 - 10 meters of signal directly from HC2. So it gave me additional 15 - 20% maybe. With repeaters like Switch 2, i would cover 2/3 of floor in office building where i work. Tested.

But, it depends strictly on wall material.

    Good to know, thankyou.

Thx guys, interesting stuff. I have ordered a Fibaro range extender that just plugs into the wall. Shoul fix the problem.

Even if this answer might be to late?

I used the Popp Strike Lock for this. I think it's the only device you need.

It can be battery or mains powerd.

I powered it with the existing bell powersupply.
