Emergency switch on stove

Question

Posted

Hello,

I have an cooker and I would like to add a red emergency button to cut off the power. Problem, I cannot use the Fibaro single switch since the maximum amperage is 8A and my stove is about 40A. Is there a way that I can do this? And if I would like to measure the amperage of the stove also?

I found the qubino smart meter that I can add directly in the electric table with the

Thank you very much for your help,

Yes having a slave contactor is they easiest way to do this but I think aeotec have a 40a resistive zwave switch in their range if you needed the power metering functionality

@ljoubert: please be careful when installing an emergecy button. If it should be a real emergency button, pressing the button MUST make sure the power is cut reliably, might mean in your case 3*40A*400VAC and much more in case of a real emergency situation, when the oven draws whatever is possible but the circuit breakers do not trip due to whatever reason. The emergency button must under no circumstance not lead to a power cut-off e.g. due to welded contacts and alike.

So in your case the button might trigger an emergency cut off relay (specially designed for this application) and using an auxiliary contact to get all the messaging to your homeautomation system. Having an emergency 'relay' in silicone is for sure available but has a price tag as well. The cut off relay is then dimensioned based on the maximum short circuit current possible in your situation.

If you 'only' want an easy accessible quick power off possibility, you might think about a big red button, e.g. from EAO or TAG (not an emergency mushroom button), there are many available. Then use this to trigger the power off, but this is for sure NOT an emergency OFF circuit.

Please also keep in mind that your oven is most probably not only a resistive load, but also inductive, which can easily kill electronic switches, especially when used at their limits like the aeotec trated at 40A in your application using 40A. I would only use this one to cut up to 10A, if inductive load is involved.

just my 2c and please keep it safe
