Template for Nodon Wall Switch

Question

Posted (edited)

Dear Fibaro team,

What is the reason for not implementing a template for the Nodon Wall Switch CWS-3-1-01 ?

This device is used by many HC2 / HCL owners and all of them -including myself- are struggling with recurrent template notifications.

This remote switch is acting in the same way as the Fibaro KeyFob, in my humble opinion there is no time consuming engineering work required.

So please can one off you invest some hours to provide the requested template?

We will be very grateful !

There's only one thing to do, forget it.

one year ago I was sent an email to FIBARO support with templates on COOLCAM (Shenzhen Neo Electronics Co) production (motion sensor/alarm - bell siren/plug socket and wall light switch)

It's the same place one year later.

Could be tomorrow, could be when pigs fly.

btw,

 that's your device IMHO

btw, interesting... why FIBARO did not use this db? or FIBARO thinking like Bender: to build my own theme park with blackjack and hookers....

    Hi 10der,

    Thanks for your feedback.

I'm afraid pigs will never fly, so let's be in a constructive mode and gently ask Fibaro to provide this template. :-)

Are there other candidates on this forum using Nodon switches?

    Feel free to try. ;-)

I think there is a backlog at Fibaro of ~300 devices. Anyone wants to bid more? ;)

do you have Fibaro compatible devices list?

    wow. lol.

we still have no official communication from Fibaro about a list of supported devices by the HC2 (AFAIK)

It should easy and fast for Fibaro to use the template from the Nodon Octan and copy it to the other Nodon wall switches. They are according to Nodon identical.

Guys, there is template only for nodon Octan version 2.3, i believe.

If you want a template, then easy way is to download it from HC and also add there in .txt file output from JSON from Slave and Master device and send it to Fibaro and wait until you find NodOn in changelog. If you have Octan and Wall Switch, then i think they are nearly identical in JSON output. Those little differences makes it without template.

    http://[HC_IP]/api/devices/[ID_DEVICE]

    eg: http://192.168.81.1/api/devices/5

Now i will play devil lawyer.

Guys, it works even without template out of the box and adding the parameters is easy enough. Add parameter (param. number, lenght (1d) and value) -> Save -> Wake up device -> reload web page. So question is, how much is template needed? Does your projects depends on template for NodOn?

Now i will play devil accuser.

@T.Konopka or @I.Srodka, can you tell us how high are Nodon devices (scene controllers) in your integration list to do? Meaning on high level (integrated soon), somewhere in middle or somewhere in bottom. I asked about it some times ago (maybe a year atleast)?

    Hi,

Please note that devices added without templates should still work with basic functions (as @jakub.jezek pointed out) since templates give us only visual support for maintaining the device. This means that templates facilitate changing the parameters, however any other functionality should work without problems. To change a parameter, please go to device's advanced settings and choose "Add Parameter" at the bottom of the page. All the information about parameters of a given device is in its manual.

Despite that, @jakub.jezek you can send the template to our Support so they will hand it over to Software Developers for a review to check if it can be added to Fibaro system within one of the next software updates. We are constantly working on adding templates to our system, but because of large number of such devices it can take some time. I have to ask for a little bit more patience.

@I.Srodka,i sent it to support. Ticket number is #102825. Please note that parameters and software for all NodOn scene controllers (Octan, Wall Switch, Soft remote) is same in Fibaro output. JSON output from my device is below.

Maybe on Z-Wave level is something different, but i do not think it would have any impact for creating generic template for all NodOn scene controllers. In the same i'm not counting serial number, which is always different.

Thank you for your input. I found that ticket.

I will pass this template to the right team.

I would like to add that "templates" might not be as straightforward as people think. Devices can have different parameters, depending on hardware and firmware revision of the device. Example: Aeotec MultiSensor exists in old Z-Wave and newer Z-Wave Plus version (round) but also as "MultiSensor 6" (cube-like). If people would use product numbers to refer to them, the difference would be clear, but often they only mention "MultiSensor" (even when referring to Fibaro FGMS-001). All Aeon hardware versions have different parameters. But even that is not enough information! Firmware revisions 1.04, 1.06, 1.07  of MS6 all have different parameters! Search for "engineering specification" of a specific version. Revision 1.7 adds lots of parameters and corrects errors in the description and parameter size. I think to support the colloquially known Aeon MultiSensor, you would need at least 3 X 3 = nine (!) "templates" (rough estimate, based on my experience with revisions).

@petergebruers, NodOn wall switch, Octan and Soft remote have same parametr numbers and whole setting. In Fibaro you can just see it as ID-RF and version, no matter what NodOn scene controller is used. I have them in my demo models (have 4).

Product codes: Wall switch is CWS-3-1-01, Octan is CRC-3-1-00 and Soft remote is  CRC-3-6-01 - CRC-3-6-06.

Thank you for clarifying that. I should have stated in my previous post that I do not have a clue wether nodOn behaves, how shall I put it, as badly as Aeon... I meant to say that, generally speaking, it might be somewhat more complex. For fun and pleasure, I have checked openzwave and they use three templates, one for each device type, but only the device name and some typographical stuff is different. Due to the way controllers match manufacturers and devices, this separation into three templates makes sense, although conceptually you might be absolutely right these three products share (almost) identical firmware and parameters and one template should suffice...

@petergebruers, i know what you mean by that complexity. Aeon is indeed good example of differences not just in devices but in versions also :D:D.

I have an NonOn soft remote CRC-3--6-03 and there is still no device template in the FW. 4.140. Have tried to add with and without NWI / Secure / Device Far Located from HC.

    Attached is the device template.

Please login or register to see this attachment.

@T.Konopka could you please forward it to the development team?

    Thank you for the template.

It will be forwarded to our Software Developers to review, if it could be

Please note, that devices without a template still should be working with the basic

@Cirion , it works good without template. I do not think checkboxes are needed.
