Philips Hue Bridge 2 - Keep losing connection and long wait to connect

Question

Posted

Hi,

Just want to check with fellow forumers if anyone is facing the same issue I have recorded with the Hue app taking a long time to connect and keep losing connection?

@chaicka,

I could not see whole your movie from dropbox as I had bad data transfer from there. I managed to see the begining.

I would suggest to try change zigbee channel for communication between bridge and your bulbs.

However when I tried to change zigbee channel with my Hue bridge, some of the bulbs moved to another channel succesfully but few were unresponsive. Probably they were left on the "old" channel.  I had to reset these few bulbs and add them to Hue bridge again.

I tried  zigbee channel update because I thought it could interfere with my bluetooth devices.

Unfortunately change of channel did not help - I am not happy with the bluetooth connection between computer and bluetooth speaker.

    I have changed zigbee channel which I believe is not related to the communication/connectivity between Hue app on iOS devices and Hue Bridge. I have no problem to control the Hue lights once the Hue app is able to 'authenticated/connected' with the Hue Bridge. I suspect it is largely to do with the latest firmware for Hue Bridge which has significant changes on its authentication mechanism compared to several versions ago.

    ***Teach me a hard lesson not to update to latest firmwares - a habit I tend to have when new firmware has been released for >4 weeks, I will assume not being withdrawn means there is no major impact to its customers.***

    On a separate note regarding the zigbee channels, I managed to find a channel which does not get interference from WLANs of my place or neighbouring places. Hence, that explains why I am not seeing any connectivity issue between the Hue lights and the bridge. Using the Hue dimmer accessory works perfectly fine. Only issue is between the Hue app and bridge (which coincidentally also facing problem between HC2 and Hue Bridge). ;)

    Hi @chaicka,

    I have no such problems on my network or even when connecting remotely with HUE original app. My HUE bridge 2 is on latest firmware 1705121051.

    I also changed zigbee channel on my HUE bridge before but all of my lamps continue to work properly, have 32 of them.

    So, what I can suggest? Did you check that everything is ok with your home network and that static IP addresses can't be assigned by DHCP server? Cable quality? Interference with other devices? On Hue bridge do you have all three blue LED-s always On or that one for internet connection is sometimes off? Did you try to connect to Hue bridge remotely and was it possible? Is Hue bridge connected to router or network switch? If it is connected to network switch is it maybe Netgear? I had a lot of problems with some of their switches before so now I use only gigabit switches from D-Link, very good devices.

    Hue Bridge 2 is now running on DHCP reserved IP address (reservation set on DHCP server to always assign same IP for Hue Bridge 2's mac address). Cat6A cables used and swapped two trusted cables (tested no issue on other devices) but still persist. Hue Bridge 2 always blue LEDs on. Hue Bridge 2 lost remote connectivity after factory reset it and no longer able to link up to MyHue portal. Hue Bridge 2 is connected to enterprise-grade switch (UBNT EdgeSwitch, not those SOHO-class ones like D-Link, NetGear, LinkSys). Switch side reports no error for the actual physical connectivity.

    Well then, what is really left to check, to do or to suspect?
